Thoughts on SS190 for general On-Duty use

Now that I am using a 5.7 on duty, what is the general consensus of the SS190 round for anti-personnel use?

    How to purchase SS190 ammo

Hi, does anyone know where or how I can purchase ss190 ammo? I am a police officer in Georgia.

    Thanks

SS190 is the best that FN offers, but if you want something that far exceeds SS190 against hard and soft targets give these folks a call...

    Click for the GOOD stuff!

I would choose the S4M as I think it is the best round ever made for the 5-7. They also have LEO only rounds that penetrate like mad, however I doubt they work as well as S4M against soft targets.

    Sorry JHS...

Your department will have to purchase it for you.

No need to be sorry as most department will not allow it. Factory ammo only.

Oh, and the SS198 is faster and a better all around for duty use round and you can purchase it yourself.

Hmmm, that's a good point. I wonder how so many Leos get around it? Purchase it themselves? Do they incur liability buying "unapproved" ammo or is it just a cost thing? In other words, their dept. won't reimburse them if they buy it?

If you used ammo that was not approved by your department and shot someone you'd be in violation of the departments SOP and be hung out to dry in any civil action. Not worth it.

Yeah, that wouldn't be good. EA is a licensed ammo manufacturer I believe, so that may help with dept. approval. I would assume that smaller depts. are more lenient with ammo choice than larger depts. Otherwise, I'm with JHS, SS198 is a good round.
