I want a recipe for a subsonic load. I've searched the forums a number of times but haven't found anything solid, just people experimenting.
I thought buying some of Elite Ammo's QuieTor would be a good place to start. They use a 55 grain FMJ projectile.
Shooting paper at 12 yards with my USG pistol and AAC can I noticed the following:I'm not to psyched about trying to reverse engineer Elite Ammo's load. I'm looking for a subsonic load that patterns the same or just below SS197. Anyone have luck with this??? Given the direct blowback nature of the pistol I'm sure there is going to be a fair amount of noise coming out of the chamber whenever it cycles, but I'd like my subsonic load to be quieter, like my direct blowback .22LR pistol can be, which my neighbors cannot hear. Any thoughts?
- QuieTor hit in a descent sized group 5 inches high and 5 inches to the left of where SS197 groups.
Each QuieTor bullet hit the paper perfectly sideways. They didn't leave a keyhole so much as a perfect sideways silhouette of the bullet.
Report from the QuieTor loads was louder than expected, much louder than .22LR subsonics shot through the same can.
Report from QuieTor was noticeably less sharp than that from SS197.
But my Neighbor with her window opened heard and counted all the shots, both QuieTor and SS197, and didn't really notice that some were louder than others.
I don't reload personally so I can't offer you any technical info at all. However, I have compared the Quietor to FNH subsonic SB193 bullets and there is a BIG difference! FNH is very quiet compared to ELITE. I will continue to buy Elite subsonic since it is way cheaper than FNH (hard to find) but I have to admit that I am dissapointed in the sound level from the Elite ammo.
It is encouraging to hear that. Perhaps I should try to get my hands on a few rounds of the FN subsonic and see what kind of powder they are using.
I will donate a few to you if you can decipher it. I am sure Elite has tried to reverse engineer the SB193 but not perfectly...
Don't get me wrong, reliable good stuff, just not nearly as quiet.
By the way, do you have any of the stock extenders in stock? Your web site shows none in stock.![]()
I would appreciate that very much. I'll trade you a few rounds for $15 off our new style butt extensions when they come in later this month. I'll PM you.
Yeah, I wonder if maybe Elite got tired of making 3 kinds of subsonic and has been selling us the 10 or 16 inch loads, because my QuieTors seem supersonic. Next time I shoot then I'll have to chrony.
PS Have you noticed a POI shift between the SB193 and SS19x?
As an update, Jay from elite read this post and has been working with me to get a subsonic load that works with my setup. He will be sending me a replacement box. Very good customer service. It's not the case that they have just one subsonic load. They really care.
Promoted Pawn LLC sells U.S. made, MIL-SPEC, field-tested, and guaranteed for life, Aftermarket Accessories , for the FN PS90 and the FN SCAR.
Jay worked with me for quite a while to find the magic load for my SBR with a TAC-16 suppressor. I use it for several .223 platforms as well as the 5.7.
The combination required a special load and a lot of tests.
