Hearing Scheduled forthe National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity

Hearing Scheduled for H.R. 822,the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012

    http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/7978

For months we have been reporting on a critically important bill: H.R. 822 the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. This vital NRA-backed legislation, introduced earlier this year by Congressmen Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) will enable millions of permit holders to exercise their right to self-defense while traveling outside their home states.

Thanks to much hard work and action taken by NRA and our members, H.R. 822 has now garnered 242 cosponsors in the U.S. House. On Tuesday, September 13, the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security will hold a hearing on the bill.

There is currently only one state (Illinois) that has no clear legal way for individuals to carry concealed firearms for self-defense. Forty states have permit systems that make it possible for any law-abiding person to obtain a permit, while most of the others have discretionary permit systems. (Vermont has never required a permit.)

I'd be really surprised if this passes. And living in New England, let me tell you what a pain in the a** it is to live 10 minutes from TWO state borders, and have to worry about this. I work in Maine, Maine permit came in the mail the other day, but still waiting on Mass. If I have to drive west in southern NH, the fastest way is to cut through Mass. I unload and lock just before seeing the Spirit of Massachusetts sign on the highway, and flip it the bird on the way by. Wife works in Mass, at a college, and don't even get me started there.

Could probably pass in the House... it MIGHT pass in the Senate... but I can't see BO not vetoing it. His path to reelection is through his base, and he's never had, and never will have, the gun vote. The misinformation perpetuating on CC permit holders is unbelievable. And the biggest problem I see is the states that insist on a class requirement. I'd gladly show my training certificates again if I meant I didn't have to worry about renewals on 6 permits between me and my wife, but the opponents of this bill are going to bring it up that a lot permit holders don't have the class, and I wonder if it's something the sponsors would be flexible on.

My opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it.

I am hoping it will as it really is a Pain in the Ass to travel with my CCW, especially when I have to cross ILL anytime I want to travel west

Unfortunately, alot of these bills are for political purposes and are expected to get shot down. It shows who voted against it and they use that for political fodder when elections come around

Actually Fox interviewed wayne lapierre today, and he was confident it would be passes, as 42 states already allowed CCW in their states.
