    Cerakote on top of melonite?

I'm looking at barrels, and the melonite coated ones seems to be the way to go.

Sadly melonite isn't very pretty looking and I was wondering if cerakote will reliably stick to it?

I looked into the very same thing, the answer I received from all sources was yes!

From what I have heard-- yes
in fact my gunsmith recommended to do it inside the upper of my ar's to decrease friction with the nickle/boron bcg

Will some of the melonite coating need to be removed in order to create a better surface for cerakote to stick to?

From what I know, the surface is media blasted before application.

It should be properly prepped before coating is applied, this will give you the best and longest service from the Cerakote.

How will this affect the benefits of melonite? It sounds like the melonite process penetrates into the metal some, so I assume we're talking about an inconsequential amount of material being removed by blasting?

Being they claim the melonite treatment penetrates below the surface of the metal and you only need to "lightly etch" (#120 grit aluminum oxide or garnet sand @80-100psi) the parts surface you shouldn't lose any of the melonites benefits.
