Anyone know what the thread pitch is on the Ballista barrels - I need to know for the Thunder Beast 338 suppressor. Thanks - Dan

Just got off the phone with FNH Commercial folks who advised that the muzzle thread pattern for all three barrels (338 Lapua, 300 Win Mag, 308 Win) is M18x1 RH

Left or right hand threading? The direction of the threading varies across their entire platform line.

Congrats on the Ballista and the Thunder Beast.

My M18x1 SilencerCo BB Harvester screwed right on the .308 barrel, I haven't tried the .338 yet. Clockwise tighten.

Any suggestions as to the best way to remove the factory muzzle brake ??? Was told by the factory reps at SHOT that the muzzle brake/jam nut needs to be heated in order to break the thread glue loose ??? With the cost of the barrels I sure don't want to wreck anything !!!

    Ballista Muzzle Brake Removal

SUCCESS — Talked to the tech folks at FNH ( 1-800-635-1321 x3 x3 - Tech Info ) who advised that the Ballista muzzle brakes (M18x1 RH) are glued with Green Loctite. The MB needs to be heated to approx. 480F (250C) to melt the bond and then disassembled while “hot”.

See Loctite Threadlocker Green 290 spec sheet - http://www.loctiteproducts.com/tds/T_LKR_GREEN_tds.pdf .

See — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9zFgB8lTNM — Use heat gun rather than torch.

I used a heat gun set at 900F to heat the MB to approx. 500F, ran the MB jam nut clockwise against the barrel to have an anchor for the locking 1-1/16” wrench, and then turned MB counter-clockwise with 1” wrench to remove the MB. Once you break the bond keep turning MB until it is removed, add additional heat as needed if it starts to tighten again. Cleaned the threads with brass brush.
