The FAL is 1950's technology. The SCAR is truly the first modern .30 caliber battle rifle designed with a clean sheet of paper since the HAC-7.

I had the ramps polished on the century fal and never had a problem,Ihave been shooting it in texas tactical comps for several months now .The only reason I dont use my scar is the fact that they require you have a minimum of 3 mags and I dont .Long story short I believe that with a little tlc and fine tuneing a century fal can be a good firearm ,mine sure does the job. http://s1184.photobucket.com/albums/...mas2011109.jpg
i had a fal for years. eventually i got away from the "battle rifle" concept for the sniper/spotter m110 concept. i looked at reworking my beloved fal. and alas after much work and investment it would never measure up to todays accuracy standards. so i looked at the dsa that they tauted as their tack driver. and still no joy. even though the fal is legendary (i feel it is better than the m1a and the hk91) the things that limit it's potential are unfixable as they are very much part of it's design.
so in november of 2008, i sold my beloved fal and her 30 magazines for $1800. and the search was on for a spotters rifle. it was a painful decision to say the least.
i took my time. i looked at every platform from many companies. during this time i also abandoned the remington 700 for the fn spr a1. after 16 years of faithful service and 6 sniper schools, the 700 was gone. 2 years later i am very happy with my decision! today myself and my son both shoot fn bolt guns.
i am disappointed in this new ballista. as it is not truely an fnh product. the barrett can rest easy as i will not be spending that $8500 on an imported rifle.
in 2010, i finally made my selection. even though my friend george gardner makes a pretty darned good SASS, i took the plunge. it was not pof or larue, it was a little known rifle company called LWRCI. the rifle is the REPR.
the rifle is nearly as accurate as my spr! for an "AR" platform rifle it is actually very fal like. i plan to suppress this one and maybe even set it up with night vision. these things are very easily accomplished with modern designs purpose built for the mission.
even though i am extremely pleased with the new operator grade weapons systems, i still think about the fal that served me well for so many years. ahh yes, fondness is forever!
these are the chronicles of my observations and journeys. they are not open for debate, as i am not interested in arguing with any resident internet know it alls.
The FAL is a classic rifle design that had proven its worth before most of us were born. There are literally truck loads of spare parts, add-ons, up grades, and options available. Magazines can be had by the bushel for a song and in different capacities for a little more. I was able to build one to my personal tastes for way less than half of what a SCAR-H goes for and it shoots the exact same round and gives similar performance.
Maybe I’m just and old school, old Corps kind of guy but I’ll stick with my FALs.
