I'm in the process of selling my M1A Scout w/Troy Chassis, and like every good gun owner, I'm going to use those funds to buy another gun. The problem is, I can't decide between another M1A (full sized this time, with the E2/A1 stock), or an FAL. I was going to go with the M1A, but I found another FAL today that looks promising.
It's a Century Arms L1A1 Sporter, with cheap plastic furniture, but not the thumb hole stock that is common. It is brand new, with flash hider, bayonet lug, etc, for $1000. How over priced is that? Would a CAI L1A1 be worth that at all? Over all it looks good and feels good, with the only changes I'd like to make would be to swap the plastic furniture out for wood. Anybody got reasons I shouldn't go for it? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Avoid it like the plague. Century L1A1's are generally poor quality, and can be had for much cheaper, 600$ range. My buddy got stuck with one that was promised to be a "shooter", it was not. Century products are 90% garbage, no matter what knock off they are re-producing. Find an Imbel or DSA, that is the 1000$ quality FAL purchase to make.![]()
Thanks for the info. I've also found an Imbel L1A1 w/SUIT sight for $1750 or so, but that's really at the upper limit of what I'd like to pay. Hmm, well, thanks again, I guess I'll keep my eyes open.Originally Posted by mrcharlie

Try gunbroker.com, or check DSA's website.![]()
$1000 is horribly overpriced.
there is nothing wrong w/ a century rifle, the older ones w/ imbel recievers are actually better than most other rifles. if the rifle runs and functions right, then it is good. w/ the recalls and stuff that DSA is having, century's may be the smarter choice. Entreprise is in the same boat, they just changed owners and had the main guy (matt) leave and the new management has yet to be proven either way yet.
base price for an all plastic no frills rifle is about $550, then start adding upgrades from there.
CAI should change their name to something more fitting of the type of stuff they put out, like 'Sanford & Son'...

I didn't know Imbel made inch guns...?
Imbel didn't. Sanford & Son took Imbel metric uppers and literally slapped inch parts on the upper. Hack-job at its finest. When they didn't have enough inch parts they cobbled together some real abominations with inch and metric parts. The term, clusterf*ck doesn't even come close to describing what they did. For a 'smith' to determine what the individual had over the phone was nearly impossible.Originally Posted by Ferris2son

I've heard of them. Aunt Esther made the furniture and Grady was in charge of QC.
