Mechanical properties of steel cased cartridges are not the same as brass cased cartridges.
Do you agree with the above statement?

I'm not a metalurgist and I don't play one on TV but I did grow up during the "cold war" and am old enough to remember the air raid drills living next to a SAC Air Force Base in the 60s. Call me predudice, I really don't care, but I refuse to buy Russian made stuff if I can help it. There are plenty of US ammo companies, reloaders & US companies who make their living selling foreign surplus ammo to feed our rifles for the next 100 years.
I am not too concerned about the extractor issue when using steel cased ammo. I don't know if it wears an extractor out or not, but my feeling on it is that the steel in an extractor is probably harder than the steel in the Russian cases. I have shot a fair amount of Russian steel case ammo in a couple of Bushmaster AR's. Other than lack luster accuracy I have had no problems what so ever. Also I have yet to replace an extractor in them and the AR's extractors are not very rugged when compared to a Fal's. However, I do have extra extractors for most of my rifles and pistols if I should need one.
What concerns me about the Russian steel case ammo is the reported Ka-booms in the 308 cal ammo. I don't feel the cost savings is worth the risk especially when you factor in the accuracy of the ammo.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I don't see a post anywhere in this thread that says differently.Originally Posted by SgtStrykerUSMC43

Steel cased ammunition is harder on the extractor because it doesn't relax in order to facilitate ease of extraction. In lay terms... it grips the chamber with more force than its brass counterpart.
