Hello. New guy to forums but 20+ years in firearms. I just picked up a FS2K but I do have two FALs. I have always run good ammo through my FALs and never tried Wolf or other steel cased stuff. Is it OK to run steel case through my FALs? One is a Imbel receiver G1 build and the other is a DSA carbine. Both have been a joy to shoot and no problems.
The steel cased stuff is hard on the extractor.![]()
07/02 SOT Manufacturer, Suppressors, NFA Firearms, and everything else COOL!
Thanks, I'm glad I never ran any through mine.
Hey Sarge, what do you think of the Asian 20rnd mags? Any good?

I wouldnt do it. I dont buy any of the steel crap.
I won't. From my lurking days on here, I can say with confidence that Sarge knows his stuff.![]()
I just picked up some German surplus in 200 rnd cardboard "battle packs" sealed in plastic. It says: AB22 200 Patronen 7.62mmX51, DM41 Weichkern.
Brass with green sealant around the primer. The shop guy said it is NON corrosive. $90 a battlepack.
My Century mutt ate the old steel case Norinco stuff with pleasure... only put about 500 thru it, another 2k or so brass case, no issues before I sold it to pay some bills. I only shot it 'cause I got it cheap before I had a FAL (was shooting it in a mauser), but now that it is gone I wouldn't go out of my way to buy steel case stuff to feed my new DCI/Imbel mutt.
I've got a standard FAL and a L1A1 and have used steel case Tula (Wolf) for years with not one problem.
Also shoot .308 Tula in my Cetme, Ishapore Enfield, Savage model 10, and Marlin XS7 Varmint Hunter.
Granted it's not as accurate as more expensive stuff but it's much cheaper, and for punching paper at the range thats all I care about.
Its not harder on the extractor [its harder metal but it doesn't expand like brass and clamp into the chamber from that expansion] but it is prone to case head seperation and blowouts. Steel cased ammo is a big no no in FAL's for a safety reason.

If there is any truth to steel-case ammo being harder on extractors, I
would like to know where there is proof of that.
What,... after like 40,000 rounds there is enough difference to measure?
Don't get me wrong, after my FAIL experiences with .223 steel case
ammo I am the biggest steel-case-ammo bigot on the internet.
I'm also a realist.
There have been a few cases of people reporting KABOOM of FAL's using
steel-case ammo. Nobody ever has good account of exactly what
happened when the KABOOM went off. Could just as easily have been
some sort of out-of-battery issue as any inherent shortcoming of the
steel-case ammo.
In the meantime, there seems to be a s***load of people using the stuff in
FAL's without incident.
If you are worried about wearing-out an extractor - and I don't think you
should be - you ought to have a spare extractor, extractor plunger, and
extractor spring anyway. It only takes one lousy round to send all three
of those pieces flying into the next zip code. Sucks to have a rifle go
down for lack of a few easily-obtained parts.
