First off if the Admin of this site do not want me posting on here then I understand completely and I will honor their wishes. Just let me know.
My only reason for posting is due to a couple of people looking for help on building their kits. I hate to see someone miss out on the enjoyment of building and shooting their rifle.
So with that all said: if you have a kit, have no idea were to start and you don't have anyone in your area to turn to for help.
Then I HIGHLY suggest you pick up a copy of Gunplumber's How To DVD and work book. It will walk you from start to finish through a kit build. It is full of close ups, easy to understand talk and it's geared for the novice building his first kit. It will show you what tools you need, how to make some tools and step by step go over every detail of the build from demilling your kit on. It covers all the legal bases for 922. He even gives a list of parts, part makers and gives a no BS review of some of the parts.
I am no expert or gun smith. I am medically retired Military and retired Federal LE. My knowledge consists mainly of hunting, reloading and in my younger days I shot some handgun and rifle competition. Other than that I collect some guns.
I knew nothing of building a Fal rifle before 2006, when I bought a kit. At that time someone told me to pick up a copy of GP's video and work book. After looking at it I went out and got the tools and required parts. I built my first Fal in my garage in four hours, (less refinishing). I went to my range where it shot 100% from the first shot on. It has never once malfunctioned in anyway shape or form. I have built Fal's since then and helped other folks trouble shoot or build their Fal's. Mostly based on the knowledge I got from his video.
Some people on the net don't care for Gunplumber. I am not here to debate that issue. It has nothing to do with the fact that his video has helped huge numbers of people build their kits into legal working rifles. I know if it wasn't for his video I probably would have sent my kit off for someone to build for me.
There is no big secret nor anything mysterious about building a legal Fal rifle from a parts kit. I could tell you how in this thread, but until you have seen it done most people including me would find it hard to understand. Once you are shown how it's really simple. It's just the finding someone to show you how part that is hard. This DVD fixes that.
You can pick up a copy of the DVD and work book off GP's site, Arizona Response System or you can usually buy a copy from Gunthings, which is were I got my copy.
Disclaimer: I have never met Gunplumber. I don't know Gunplumber personally and I have nothing to do with Arizona Response System or any other business he may have. Other than him posting on some threads I posted on I have no connection with him or his business. I just thought his product would help some folks like it helped me.
Good Luck and get those kits built before all the part makers stop making parts!
I have the gunplumber video, and it is very good information as you stated. I bought it years ago. It shows step by step how to do it. I still watch it now and then just for fun. It did take some of the fear of screwing up the build away.
I would say to do yourself a favor on the first build to either utilize the video or a FN manual.
The first one I built was in 1987 which was a G1 parts kit and a FN receiver from GSI with no resource other than a new FN 50.00 commercial FAL. Needless to say, I had a lot of anxiety with the recoil spring and barrel timing.![]()

LOL! That spring can be a real surprise if your not expecting it. My biggest concerns before the video were headspaceing and barrel timing.
