Hey guys just pickd up an IMBEL FAL built by DSA and absolutely find it a joy to shoot. The finish is a satisfactory park grey, comes with a sling, BFA, and bayonet. I fired 100 rnds of radway green NATO with no malfunctions of any kind. I will admit the trigger which feels like 10 pounds could use improvement, otherwise I quite pleased. My only question however is weather or not it is normal for FAL rifles to have slight horizontal play between the upper and lower at the recoil plate. Its not noticeable until you move the upper slightly off to the side. I would describe is very similarly to the AR wiggle however far less noticeable. The upper moves from side to side about half a millimeter and if its not normal do you guys know of any quick fixes for this? The only reason i ask is i feel that it might limit the iron sight accuracy past 300 meters.
If you look at the underside of the upper receiver, there are two relief cuts which should narrow to the rear. if the width between the relief cuts is on the high side of tolerances, the result is lateral play between the upper & lower. A quick and dirty fix would be to peen this area on both the left and right aspects to reduce the play.

Alright great ill see if i can find a punch of appropriate size and take it slow on the peening, otherwise i had a bit of luck with putting the lower hinge in a vice and tightening them up a bit decreasing tolerances at the hinge after the screw is tightened. The wobble has decreased significantly. Once again SGT thanks a bunch for the help, my FNAR would still be on the bench otherwise haha.
You don't actually need a punch. A small hammer will do and what you're looking to do is roll the shoulder inboard a few thousandths of an inch from both sides.
You're welcome once again.![]()
