    1911 vs FNP45 for accuracy?

Is the FNP45 as accurate as a standard 1911? I like several things about the FNP45 like the DA/SA trigger, no grip safety, lighter weight, higher capacity.

So it really comes down to accuracy, I really need to know from those who have both or have experience with both.

From my experience, yes. It should be just as accurate, if not more so, that a standard 1911.

It probably won't shoot as accurately as a custom one or modified (no experience with those), but my old FNP-45 was the most accurate pistol I have shot (including a couple of my friends). I never rested it to see what it could really do, but I could hold 2" groups at 15 yards unsupported, which is really good for me (me being the limiting factor). I was able to do similar with a 1911.

Re: 1911 vs FNP45 for accuracy?

With a shorter barrel and sight radius it is inherently less accurate than a 1911. With that said, there are a lot of cheap 1911's that are so sloppily fit that they throw lead all over and for it's price range the FNP-45 is very well fit with a nice consistent slide to barrel lockup.

A quality 1911 will be more accurate, and all of my better ones will outshoot my FNP-45 at a distance or from a rest, but for some ergonomic reason that I have yet to understand I can shoot the FNP better offhand at distances less than 20yds. than I can even with my custom 1911's.

With a Burris Fast Fire II on my FNP 45 competition I can get scary accurate. My 1911 has a MUCH better trigger and it's no slouch in the accuracy department, but I shoot the FNP better.

Have not been on this board latley and saw this post.
I have been lucky to have owned some very accurate 1911's
some with test targets 1" at 50 yards ( 10 ) rounds Ranson Rest.
I was blown away with just how accurate I can be with my FNP-45.
This is the best I have done with it slow fire at 25 yards
    33 Rounds Hand Held
FNP-45 can hold it's own at 25 yards

That's pretty nice shooting Robert Mitchum.

I have both a FNP-45 and an Ed Brown 1911 (Executive Elite 5" barrel). The Brown is in my opinion the most accurate .45 I have ever fired. I have yet to fire a handgun that has a trigger as nice as that on a quality 1911. That being said, the FNP is also one heck of a fine pistol. I'm not quite as accurate with it as I am with the Brown, but I've put thousands of rounds through the Brown and only about 500 so far with the FN. I'm very pleased with it and I'm sure my performance will improve with more range time. I bought it because I was also very pleased with my FNX-9 and wanted a higher cap .45 primarily for home defense. I think it's a good choice for this role, but IMO it's too heavy for a daily carry weapon. If that's what you're looking for, I'd recommend a FNP-45. It's also about 1/4 the price of a Brown, which is a good thing.

I have 2 Ed Browns... Executive Target and a Jeff Cooper Commemorative.
They are nice shooting 1911's and at 25 yards just as accurate as my Les baers with the 1 1/2" upgrade.
At 50 yards I get a little better groups with the Baers...
