    FNP 40 Questions

New to the site and this is my first post so hang in there iwth me Ill catch on . I just bought my FNP 40 yesterday and Im assuming there's a break-in period for this gun just as there is for any, but my concern is the sights. My primary weapon I carry is the Ruger SR9 which has adjustable sights. The FNP 40 does not have adjustable sights and after shooting 55 rounds today I am 6" below center target. Left and right is great and the groups are amazing I just am 6" low. Now granted the first 50 rounds were TulAmmo (free box the gun dealer gave me) and the last 5 were Win FMJ. Is this the round? Break-in period and it will fix itself with practice?

I tried to shoot at least 2 a week for a half hour or so if not 4-5 times a week with my Ruger and I am very proficientwith it out to 25 yards. Is this problem possibly shooting one gun (Ruger) so much that I've developed a "system" for shooting this pistol and have not found it with the FNP? I have been trained on form and just felt about 2 inches tall when I shot my first clip and didn't hit target once. Your feedback is appreciated.

    Woodduck,

quickie question, were you using a 6:00 hold or a 12:00 hold?? For the FNP's (and I believe the FNX's) I think the correct hold is a 12:00 hold. I have an FNP40 as well and I had to get used to the 12:00 hold since I transition from a Taurus model 82, .38 revolver.

It usually takes anywhere from 250 to 400 rounds of ammo to break in the FNP40. I have a smidge over 500 through mine. so most of the problems have worked themselves out. One thing, what kind of ammo were you shooting? I think its recommended to break in the FNP40 with the higher weight ammo. I broke mine in with a mixture of 180 gr. FMJ and TMJ as well as some 165 gr. and 155 gr. hollowpoints.

I apologize for not being more help but ask around on the sight, somebody will have a better answer for you than I do.

    And one more thing.

Yup, cover the target with the sights. They are combat sights and not target sights. I was shooting about 4" high with my dad's revolver because the sights on that one are meant to be aimed below the intended target (center circle on top of the sights, which I'm not used to)

I use a parallel thumb hold, not familar with the "6:00 and 12:00 hold". Are you talking about thumb placement? The ammo is 165gn Winchester FMJ. I assumed the break in period would work a few kinks out, but Im new to FNH and know only what I have read. I appreciate the post and let me know about the hold. I can use all of the info I can get :<>:

Here is another image I found that shows the 6 o'clock and point of aim. Sight image 3 on my above post is a bullseye hold... Just got to figure out which one the FNP uses..

Correct. The early FNP's (2007ish) used the point of aim sight picture, but changed it by around 2008 to the 'bullseye' sight picture, or combat sight picture, which I believe it is more commonly known as. For target shooting, I was taught 6 O'clock hold (using guns with fully adjustable sights, this is how my dad and uncle would adjust them)
