good superbowl morning to all,
i need your help. i recently purchased a scar16 and i'm so happy with it i want a fn pistol to go with it. i currently carry a glock/sig/beretta. i'm not familiar with the different models of fn pistols. i would want a 9mm with night sights external saftey would be nice, da/sa. what's the difference fnx/fnp/usg/. what size frame are the fn pistols in comparison to the glock g17,19. last but not least...price. my gun shops here in charlotte are real bandits when it comes to pricing guns. they'll hit you over the head and take you lunch money if you don't know what the fair price is.
any and all advice/help would be appreciated.

The FNP line is the one that is being discontinued. Length and height wise it's about the same as Glock 19. But may be a little thicker, I think. They are DA/SA. The USG model is the one that has the manual safety and decocker integrated into one lever. It also has front slide serrations. Non-USG are decocker only and no front slide serrations.
FNX is the newer version of that. Front and back slide serrations. Different style decocker and manual safety lever. Different style magazine release. Fully ambidextrous. Full Picatinny rail. Different texture (more aggressive) on grips. About the same size as FNP, but according to FNH website 3 ounces lighter.
Not sure if there is an option for factory night sights (maybe someone can add to this). The only ones available for the FNP, AFAIK, are AmeriGlo as well as the FNX.
I got mine (FNP-9 non-USG) for $410 out the door. But I've seen them go up to $450 or so. FNX are around $540-$580.

No, they don't.
From what I've read/heard, FNP is a discontinued model in favor of FNX. I've recently bought an FNP-9 at a gun show over FNX-9. Both were at the same price of $499 a piece and both came with 2 extra magazines. The FNX is a nice gun but I went with an FNP because of the grip. The FNX has a heavily textured grip that allows for good grip but originally, I was worried about keeping it clean. Both fit well in my hand but now I regret not purchasing it now since after taking the FNP to the range, I noticed that my grip was getting sweaty after extended use. The FNX I saw is set up similar to an H&K USP. It has a trigger safety which also acts a decocker above where the thumb rests. I was turned off by this configuration because it felt stiff as I was using it. The FNP I have has no external safety so that might be your answer. I hope this helps. Good luck. They are definitely nice pistols and either way would be a good option. Be sure to let me know what you go with.
hanks bruno and i'll keep you up to speed on my decision. what finish did you go with? what's the upcharge for factory night sights?

As far as I know, there are no factory night sights.
You can find via the Internet FNP-9s selling for $399 if you search a bit. Given that it is two models old today (replaced first by FNX and most recently FNS) you might want to find those selling for $399. It's a solid pistol and some prefer the grip texture over that of the FNX (and vice versa).
surely fnh offers night sights on their pistols??????
