No thumb safety looks so much nicer! None of my HK's have safeties and love it!![]()
It's all about freedom budd..
Fondled one at the gun store today and yeah, that thumb safety is small. I can not put it on without adjusting my grip. I can take it off by doing a thumb swipe, although it felt like I might not be able to consistently do it (I'd prefer non-safety or larger safety)

Yes it is small. IF they made it bigger by about a 1/4" longer and maybe a 1/16" wider on each side, I would be fine with it. When 90% of all Striker fired guns do not have an external safety lever what so ever, that stupid little safety switchy thing is a WTF moment. The problem I found was mostly putting it on from off. Once you go to grip the gun the thumb naturally wants to come down and swipe it off. But it is sometimes iffy on the upstroke. Problem is when you go to put it back on and its supposed to be on. Then you draw and go to shoot and swipe it off and it doesn't feel right when you swipe you might think you missed it and re-swipe it costing time. If you might even take your eyes off the intended threat to make sure its off. Then bang Mr. Bad guy has drilled you. The people who say just leave it off and don't worry about it. UH Mr. Murphy is going to Bone You in the Ass one day when that safety is accidentally flipped up and you go to pull the trigger.
I looked at the last one I saw very closely to see if I could use some Tenax7 to put up under the safety to weld the safety in place. Next problem is will the stuff melt and bond properly to the plastic used? Also will it ruin the warranty? Probably not to bond and Most definitely will ruin the warranty was the answers. So to heck with that idea.
Now back to waiting for the Safety-less model. I keep waiting but not patiently.
Talked to an actual FN rep today over the phone. Guy said the Model without the thumb safety was a Law Enforcement/Military Model Only.Told me there is only one prototype model with out the thumb safety, and it hasn't been show to anyone.
No plans to sell it on the commercial market at this time only Military/LE.
Well now.
IIRC this is how the FNS was first released Mil/LE middle of last year and then first of this year it was for Civies. Right????? So maybe all hope is not lost.
This is where alot of confusion comes from with FNH. Typically mil/le get first dibs then consumer follows. To answer your question/statement of they dont know product is the 800 line does not deal in sales, future possible products, availability of product. They only deal in current made product. All that you are inquiring are future maybes.
This was an actual FN Military/LE sales Rep 1-800 customer service doesn't know jack.
So the picture of the one at SHOT without the safety wasn't shown to anyone? hmm....

LOL, That is not what I'm saying. You guys are confusing sales with Service/Tec. Sales handles future product and development. If a gun hasn't been put into production only a few know specs except R&D, Production Managers, and a couple others. Once a product is released for sale that is when all the specs are released. Then there are prototypes which that pistol is right now. Will it be made. Maybe. Well hopefully. Prime example, FNAR competition. IT was shown, cataloged, and advertised. Never made. No one controls that but Sales/Product Managers/R&D.
The reason CS is not on board with the "latest" is due to the product not being available to the commercial market yet.Robert (Ailes) wasn't privy to everything in product development until he was informed that he would be answering inquiries because they were moving forward in production and offering the weapon(s) for commercial sales.
FN has a funny way of doing things and we (collectively) have to get used to it because "we" wouldn't necessarily do things in the same manner.
In short, if the model(s) become(s) available, the commercial side would be on the lowest rung on the proverbial food chain. I accept it and deal with it accordingly. The SCAR 17 magazine issue is a perfect example of this...
