Glad to help. This is way more frustrating than I expected. I'm not even sure about the screws. I don't have a thread gage. You fairly certain they are SAE? If they are 5-40, I only saw one other length in a flat head Torx on McMaster Carr. 1/2" What we have are 3/8" in length. I would assume 1/2" would work.

Not sure, but it seems all brands need some type of shim if you want to co-witness.

Success at last. The "Delrin Shim 1.0 Degree for Vortex Venom & Viper, Burris Fastfire II, III, Docters and Sightmark Optics" shim worked in conjunction with the FN supplied plate. The only screws that would work were the FN supplied cap screws...none of the FN or Vortex countersunk screws work. All that said, the Viper is firmly in place and now zeroed in. Not sure why the 1 degree shim is required when 0 degree at the right thickness would be optimal.

Strange,I didn't have any supplied screws that would work with the FN plate let alone adding the 1 degree shim. I had to buy some 5-40 x 1/2". The supplied 5-40 flathead screws are only 3/8" in length and barely poked through the FN mounting plate.. The supplied socket head cap screws are a different thread. At least mine are anyway.

Very likely might have cross-threaded my slide as a result. I too noticed the different threads but they seemed to work without force or abnormal torque.

I had no problems installing the Viper on 45T with the supplied screws and mounting plates. The only thing I didn't like was that the screws that hold the viper down to the mounting plate are not countersunk.

I have it with an absolute co-witness, but don't like that it's so busy - I want to move to a lower third setup and need to figure out what base plate to use to raise the viper without obstructing the iron sights.

I don't understand that some "maybe" have the proper screws, and others don't. The screws I got with mine that were not flatheads (countersunk) but long enough to use, were not the proper thread. The thread in the slide is 5-40. The only screws supplied by FN, that are long enough are not 5-40. At least mine weren't.

Speaking of the Viper, I just sent mine back to Vortex. Since my purchase (12/26/16), it has "eaten" 5 batteries. Something was definitely amiss with it. It got to the point of checking it everyday making sure it was turned off. When I checked it Monday...........DEAD! I put a new battery in and it wouldn't turn on. It looked corroded under the contact strip too. I'm thinking it's an isolated deal with mine. I Googled the problem with no hits. I called Vortex Monday and sent it back yesterday. She said normally when they receive it, it's a 5 day turnaround. Whether repair or replace. Cool!

I think I saw somewhere in passing (maybe another thread or forum) that the batteries can short out on the base plate. The con of having a bottom battery design with no door. Try putting a piece of electrical tape or even cloth tape over the battery before mounting the sight.

Thanks for that info, but I have the UM Tactical 1 degree Delrin shim between the plate and the sight.

btw; It's on it's way back already! Pretty certain they replaced it with a new one.
