Hi Guys,
New FNX-9 here. I had a failure to feed on the last round of the first mag. The last round was stovepiped bullet end up.
Had the same failure with the last round of the second mag.
The third new mag was perfect.
The first two were also perfect on their next tries and I had no more problems thru-out the next 150 or so shots. I loaded about 10 rounds per mag and kept rotating the mags.
Any ideas as to the cause of the two failures to feed?
Thanks,
GuyM
Keep shooting, it will get better. Some say leave the slide locked back for a night to help break in the spring as well.
And how was your grip? Limp wristing will do that also.
sounds like you just had a combination of simple fix issues:
Break in
Limp wristing
proper lubrication job?
Possibly weak ammo? (PMC)
Go ahead and load the mags up all the way. Everything will work out from here out I'm sure of it.
Also, for lubrication purposes, I recommend Otis Special forces dry lube. I have not had a single malfunction since I started using it on my guns. Not even in my most jam prone pistol, my KelTec PF-9. After I used a bunch of it on my FNX 40's trigger and hammer group, as well as the spring, slide, and barrel... The trigger pull is much smoother and the recoil is actually less.
Best thing about it is you don't have to wipe it off, it dries.

Exactly jahtech.
I've been on other firearms forums that were heavily moderated old boys clubs that catered to a small number of their oldest members. Asking any question was always met with, "Use the search function" and having your post locked.
Being open and friendly to new members, and their questions keeps a forum fresh and alive, as new members come in.

Hi Guys,
It’s answers like, “do a search,” that have made me choose not to post on forums very often. I probably have been lurking on forums longer than most posters have been posting, and I’m know that I have been buying guns and shooting longer than most posters. It was over 56 years ago that I had saved up enough paper route money to walk into the local “gun shop,” or hardware store, as it was then, and walk out with a used Stevens bolt-action 22 and a couple boxes of shells. I couldn’t afford a case so I just laid the rifle over the handle bars of my bike, to young for a drivers license, and proceeded to pedal up and down main street proudly showing off my new possession to anybody that was interested. Imagine doing that today.
Back to the question at hand. I probably should have been more specific. My question was pertaining to the FNX-9 only, and whether there were any known problems like I had encountered. That’s a brand new model to me and anyone else that I shoot with. It’s the first one any of us have ever seen.
Since nobody has replied with known issues I assume there aren’t any and I’ll just work through the normal causes.
Thanks to the positive responders, I’ll post more results when I get them. As of now it appears to happen only with my lightly loaded indoor paper punching reloads. The outdoor steel ringers work just fine.
All the FNP and FNX series pistols are very touchy about light "powder puff" target loads. They are service pistols and as such much prefer standard loadings, and really like NATO or Euro CIP spec loadings.
In 9mm stay away from Remington 115 grain bulk packs. If you can come up with some Winchester NATO 124 ammo for break in that would be a very good choice.
I have 1230 trouble free rounds through my FNX-9, all of it was factory stuff, the cheapest being the Federal Champion and Winchester White Box from Wal Mart, both 115 gr fmj. The next step up Federal American Eagle and Blazer Brass as well as S&B and Fiocchi have been very good as well.
The is an even worse issue with the FNP-45, as a lot of first time owners try their favorite very low powered target loads from their 1911s, with predictable results.
It will smooth out after about 500 rounds.

Yeah, the springs in a new FNX are very stiff. Lots of people have reported malfunctions with their weak ammo, and not being able to put the full 17 rounds in the mag.
I know my reloader had a ton of difficulty with my mag at around the 12 round mark (on my .40) .
Best thing is to load up the mags and lock the slide back for a couple days, and you shouldn't have any problems.
