New member with a couple fnx-45 tac questions

Hi,new to the forum, but not to firearms. I have a couple ARs, a Garand, a sig 226 and a Springfield MC operator.

I'm on the lookout for a good deal to pickup an fde FNX-45 tactical, [I will not pay more than $1100 + tax etc. - any leads would be appreciated] and I have a couple questions:

    - Has anyone had trouble with the thread protector coming loose at the range? I saw someone on m4c suggest an o-ring to keep the protector from working loose and I wondered if this was really an issue.

    - Does the trijicon rmr only come with a yellow dot?

    - I know of the trijicon rmr, the Burris fast fire or something, and I think Leupold has an rmr. What other rmrs would you suggest?

    Welcome to the forum!

The thread protector does loosen, you can use an o-ring. I do. But they are a pain to get off to remove the barrel. If I get frustrated, I cut it off and put on a new one-I bought a couple bags. The other option is just to shoot without it.

Trijicon has amber, red and green options.

I have a Trijicon, so I can't comment on the others...but, someone else will probably chime in with their experience.

I bought mine from High plains gun shop. FN FNX-45 Tactical, Three 15 Round Mags They are a forum sponsor as well. Price is $1159 but no tax unless you live in NM. They also offer a LEO/Mil discount.

I have the RM07 6.5MOA in red and love it.

Best way to keep the thread protector from coming loose is buy a can.

Ha, yeah an osprey one day would be nice. Do the forum sponsors offer discounts here? (Some of the snipers hide sponsors offer discounts)

I'm not LEO/MIL/ or a veteran unfortunately. I do have a coworker who offered to use his veteran discount for me if I ever wanted something

I checked the trijicon website and only saw amber sights, I guess I missed the others. Does anyone have an amber or green sight? Red is the usual color, but a green option might interest me.

I have the amber dot RMR 04. It is the dual-illuminated model. I like it a lot, but it will wash out in bright light. Were I to get another, I'd go for the red dot.

If you're interested in getting a thread protector that will not shoot loose, and not have to play around with separate o-rings:

There are a bunch of FNX-45 Tac's on gunbroker for right at $1100 buy-it-now price.

This one is $1099 + $20 shipping which would be less than buying for $1100 + tax for sure.

It has a o-ring that is embedded into the thread protector. It's designed for it so there is no fitment issues and it doesn't come off on your barrel. Here is one for a 9mm. I'll have one for the FNX this week that I can post up if you want.
