The problem here is that we have 11K members. I cannot possibly police that kind of activity.

Sentence or 2 and a link and citing the author is what we need.

First this whole thing SUCKS!!! Darn scumbags.

Now having said that and done venting, I understand why this needs to be done. I don't want this forum, or any forum dissappear, let alone the owners have to deal with these scumbag lawyers.

Keep up the great work Therm and all the Mod's that need to get the work done, so this forum can continue to thrive.

    Sony,

You are right.....it sucks. However, there are a couple of defendants that will deserve what they get, but the vast majority of suits are frivolous.

However, journalists deserve to be paid for their work. Just because they are printing to the public makes no difference. They deserve to be paid exactly the same as a carpenter, plumber, LEO, mechanic. Just because they make their living with the printed word is totally irrelevant.

Therm is right however, in that he must not only protect the forum, but himself as well. As owner, he bears the ultimate responsibility. Not an enviable position.

But make no mistake, we as members can be held liable as well. A screen name can be traced rather easily. So it is up to us as well, not only to protect Therm and the forum, but OURSELVES as well. Something to think about.

As a case in point, I can trace any comments on any of my articles back to the service provider. A court order can easily reveal the owner of the IP that appears at any particular time. So we as members are not immune.

And lastly, there is already case law to support the valid claims.

We all need to do our part. However, I personally don’t think this forum needs worry. We have had the occasional infarction but nothing more. It is up to us to make sure we don’t have any more infractions.

    Chris
