Well, I'm not trying to turn my beloved FS2000 into an AR, but after routinely getting my butt kicked by guys running ARs at the local 3-gun matches, I've decided that I need to bring my FS2000 at least up to par in speed and function as my competition AR.

Drop-free is a must for speed reloads. Yes, it still takes the support hand to press the release (a disadvantage against ARs), but rather than having to pull out the mag, I can immediately reach for a fresh mag while the old mag is still falling free.

I got tired of fighting the mag during reloading so I finally took the stock apart, pulled on the seal with a pair of needle nose pliers and trimmed the seal off with an exacto knife. Now, the mags drop free and reloading is fast and instinctive. What a change. I'm glad I finally did it.

I don't think this lessened the value any more than removing the factory sights (removal of sights required stock disassembly) and replacing both with folding Troy trillium dioptic BUIS. The gasket removal and the sights are both improvements and both added functionality and therefore value. I'm not selling this puppy anyway.

If the firearm was to be used in combat or very dusty conditions such as would be found out west, i might have left the gasket in, but this is a home defense, range, varmint and stray cat weapon and this change is perfect.

Too bad the weapon was not designed with a removable gasket, but it might come out at an inopportune moment, jammning a mag in the gun.
