    Magnifier crazy

Here's the deal I use a EOTech 551 and would like to have a magnifier for it, but I'm having a real hard time dropping the cash for a name brand magnifier that cost more than the sight itself. Has anybody used any of those replicas? Reason I'm thinking of replicas is the glass quality does not have to be premium and I could always get a better mount. So don't say "you bought an $2000 dollar rifle to put airsoft accessories on", cause that's a stupid argument.
Do you fear what you can't control?

FWIW, I had the same consideration. At the time I was looking at the Mako 5x but before purchase had read about a few failures and that the 5x seemed more like 3x. As a result I decided to go the bundle route on a 557.ar223 + G23 eotech and haven't had any regrets. Super clear optics, and quick release make it useful between two of my eotech equipped rifles. I justified the extra $ by using the same glass on 2 guns. Being only a magnifier means loss of zero is never an issue. YMMV.

    My 2 cents worth......

You know your own answer by mentioning that you have $2K rifle. If you had a budget build/cheap rifle then I would go with the cheap optics.
The fact is that you get what you pay for (at least most of the time ).

I'm in the process of acquiring a FS2000 but I do have an EOTech EXPS3-2 with a G23FTX magnifier w/quick swivel feature on my SIG556 (which you can see here) and I have to say that both units are amazing.

This same set up will be going on the aquired FS2K.

    My 2cents:
I hate paying through the butt for optics. SGT turned me on(hey hey bigboy) to the simmons whitetail classic line of scopes. I own a couple leop, vx1 and vx2. The simmons is just as good with clear sharp optics and holds zero on my fnar. I saved a small fortune buying the $85(on sale/discontinued) simmons. Actually I bought two.

With that said, I would try the the cheapo first, but if its like the knock off eotech 512s, don't waste your money I bought one for $40 to help offset shipping cost when I bought my ps90 quad rail. yeah it looks nice, but I had to mod it to fit tighly on my rail, it had 2 watch batteries and the glare off the glass is horrible

I picked up my Aimpoint 3x mag at a local gun show used for $150, thinking I got a killer deal. I use it with a Eotech XPS2-2. Most magnifiers have adjustments to aid in centering the view with the sight. Not absolutely necessary, but nice. Long story short, adjustments didn't work, so I took it to my gunsmith for a look, turns out its a clone. Holding it next to the real deal, we could hardly tell a difference. Only the adjustment screws hidden under the rubber covers gave it away. There was a subtle difference in the view, the clone wasn't quite as clear. But darn close.

I was told they could be purchased for around a hundred bucks. While I wouldn't usually have purchased a clone, its much better than I Would have thought. Its held up well for over a year of use. Just wish I had only paid a hundred bucks instead of one-fifty. I actually spent more on the Larue flip to side mount, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Heck of lot cheaper than 400-500 bucks. Gets the job done, and I refuse to spend another bundle for something thats “real” and does the same effect. Just hate that its a knock-off.

The clones have gotten so good at imitating Eotechs(except the quality) they had to put an alert on their site. The first way to tell is the batteries. Most clones take watch batteries. If it has red and green site it is a fake(mine does). Here is the link, click the pdf link at the bottom
