I'm trying to decide what kind of flashlight set up I want to run on my fs and I'm just curious about some of the options out there...I've seen a lot of members putting lights inside the stock hand guard which I might mess around with but I have the tri rail installed at the moment. The thing I've noticed is that it's a little more difficult to have a ambidextrous set up without a tape switch on these things. I'm not too much of a fan of the ole tape switch and rather go a different route. On the ar a flashlight can be mounted at the 11 or 1 oclock position and can be turned on when shooting offhand pretty easily, but this isn't an option for the fs. I'm considering something I can mount to the bottom rail and access with either hand...I played around a little bit with the trl-1 in front of the vertical grip but its pretty difficult to use the momentary on feature.
What do you guys run? Any input?

Sarge could make it fit.

I have a Surefire G3 on mine but I do not have the Tri Rail as I like the feel of the stock forend better.
But if I had the Tri Rail, I'd put a small X300 on the side or a smaller TLR3 on the bottom rail next the VFG.
I'm also finding it difficult to figure out a good light system without using a tape switch. I think I want to attach something like a Fenix PD32 or Surefire g2x tactical to the tri rail, but It seems like it will be very difficult to activate when shooting off hand. The ergos are pretty good on the stock handguard... so I'm starting to wonder what the point of the tri rail is since I'm probably only going to be able to use the bottom rail if I want an ambi setup.
I just realized I'm pulling up a month old thread... but hopefully someone will have more input that can help people in my situation figure out the best light setup.
Evan,
Look at the right side of the upper receiver. That is your answer. Get a small run of picatinny rail, maybe 1-3 inches, and seat it in one of those two slots. That would be a great place to fit a surefire or a dedicated weapon light like one of the TLR series. That way you get to keep the stock handguard, which I agree is more ergonomic than the tri-rail (I have both, and use the stock handguard on both of my FS2Ks).
Evan,
I just put together what I was explaining. This took me under 10 minutes. You could take apart the upper to do it, but I was able to firmly attach the rail just now without taking it apart by sticking a file through the slot in the other side to stabilize the nut behind the picatinny rail section.
Here are the results:
Hope this helps.
That looks really good. I was thinking about something similar. I currently have this set up--it works, but it would be nice to be able to wrap my hand all the way around the rail. I have also flirted with the idea of using a LaRue offset mount on the top rail in front of the EOTech (SureFire M300A in LaRue LT172 mount with SureFire SR07 rail-mounted switch).

Art,
Are you using a tape switch with that setup? I'm trying to figure out an ambidextrous option without using a tape switch but it seems like that might not be possible due to the large girth of the FS2000. It's too bad the tri-rail weighs so damn much (I had to get it when I ordered from CDNN). They should have just made it out of whatever polymer they use on the standard's rail.
If you do the flashlight-inside-the-foregrip mod, and use a light with the right dimensions, you can access a tailcap pushbutton switch at the front of the trigger guard. Which is kinda-sorta ambidextrous... though still not perfectly convenient.
