Scratch in barrel exterior with rust, options?

I managed to get a FS2000 into California, but there's a minor scratch on the barrel exterior near the muzzle brake and it's already rusted.

It's about as thick as a line from a fine tip pen, should I just clean and oil it or should I look into bluing pens or cerakote?

    Thanks everyone!

My experience with a blueing touch up was not good. It was under the hand guard and the rust accelerated. Looked good at 1st but after a couple of heat cycles it went to shat.... I would have to agree w/ shooting sight on the oil only. I wouldn't try anything else unless you steel wool just to remove the rust... as small an area as possible.

If you do use any cold blue, after you are done, get a teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with water to make a paste and smear it generously into the blued area for a few minutes before a final rinse.

Blueing solutions are acids. They can get into the metal grain structure, and if they are not fully neutralized, they will cause rust at some later time. The baking soda helps neutralize the acid.

I had good luck with Flitz and a microfiber cloth when my AKs had a bit of surface rust. Just use a little bit.

Cerakote would not be a bad thing.
