This was a DIY job that cost me under 50 bucks. I ordered some Duracoat Magpul FDE from Amazon for around 40 bucks including shipping. I then bought a 5 dollar paint spray gun from Home Depot. Basically, you pour the paint into the container that screws onto the base of an aerosol can. It isn't the best device for applying the paint but it was not much worse than a rattle can and it definitely gets the job done. If I were to do it again I would go with the same process, though I would focus on more numerous but thinner coats in the future.
In the end this is probably something like two and a half coats, but some of those were something like hybrid multicoats as I applied more paint as the outside hardened. After the first major coat I let the paint dry and then sanded anywhere that the paint dripped or pooled, then reapplied more paint. I ended up neglecting some weird angles and there are about four small spots of black up near the rear sight aperture. It is such a minor detail that I am not about to break the whole weapon down again just to fix it - it really isn't noticeable.
In the end, with all of the Overall I am highly impressed with how it came out. The finish is really impressive, especially after sitting overnight - it seems like a shell that is one with the weapon, like the way the original color was. The color, on the other hand, I am less impressed with. It is a bit too light and a bit too gray. The paint could have definitely used a cupful or two of a nice rich brown to really give this paint the tone it should have. I still think it looks great but it could be better.
If anyone has any questions, let me know. I need to recharge my camera battery after this last photo, but if anyone wants a specific angle or anything like that I will be happy to comply.

+1 for doing it and I'm interested in how it turns out and what you think of it after it's done.

I've strategically picked a couple of areas to keep black. I think it will turn out great once reassembled.
It is going to take a bit of sanding plus some additional light coats. We shall see. This has clearly become my project weapon.
can't wait to see it completed. btw, what kind of paint did you use?

Man you just really need to keep everything warm. Warm the parts before you spray them. They need to be kept warm while drying also.

Nice to see some more mods on the FS2000!

Of course I am compensating for something.... If I could kill something at 300 meters with my c*ck I would not need a gun!
