New FS2000 owner with some questions

Just got one and took it to the range once. Worked just fine no problems.

I have a few questions though....

1.) i bought it from a gun show and was wondering if there is any way to check and see when it was manufactured?

2.) any good sites on line that have accessories? i.e. strap, case, good scope etc

3.) i bought a cheap Nstar scope but i am new to rifles and really dont know how to site it. any ideas, websites or tutorials on how to site a scope properly?

DISCLAIMER: i've only shot pistols, a few shotguns and on old 22 rifle as a teenager, i really do not have much experience at all with Rifles.

Gun is in a rest and sandbag the rear. Fire one round at a large clean target with a small aiming point. Keep the reticle on the aiming poit, removing the shooter variable from the equation. After firing the round, return the reticle to the original point of aim. Then adjust the crosshair (or dot) without moving the gun so the crooshair (or dot) cover the bullet hole.

You are now zeroed. Do this at 100 yards, and it only takes one bullet if you do it properly.

(Strap) I presume you're referring to a sling. Urban ERT. They're an FNF sponsor. Look at the left sidebar on the main page. Good stuff. Viking Tactics can't be overlooked either.

    Ok thanks for the tips.

    oh yea one other thing....

when mounting a scope how far front or back should it be? or is this just a matter of personal preference?

As far as the location of the sight on the rail, its sort of a matter of preference. Assuming youre using a red dot, since you reference an NCStar, here's the way I see it: The further BACK the dot sight is, the quicker it seems to be to snap the gun up and get the dot on target. Closer to your eye, the 'tube' of the dot sight is larger, etc. With the sight further FORWARD, you may add microseconds on to your acquisition time (again, this is just personal observation, no idea how it may work for you), but you also have a little better "field of view" since the dot sight isnt right in front of you, taking up more space in your field of vision.

I prefer my dot sights to be positioned slightly more toward the front of the gun relative to the midpoint of the rail.

As far as slings, URban ERT all the way.

As far as cases, go with the one posted, good unit.

Make sure you buy some good mags, C Products, Brownells, etc. The FN supplied mag is a turd.

anyone know of good mags that fit the FS2000? i bought one from Midway that they told me would fit but it wont feed the ammo. I need a model number or something specific that for sure fits it.

also, maybe a dumb question but the mag that midway sent me says .556 on it. does this mean it will only feed .556 ammo or will .223 work too?

What type of mag did Midway send you?

The FS2000 will ONLY use GI mags. GI mags are the aluminum mags with the vertical ribs like you are used to seeing in the "traditional looking" AR's. Not trying to insult your gun intelligence, not sure how much of a newbie you are....

Buy some "C Products" magazines. They are cheap and have anti tilt followers that prevent jams.

def a newb when it comes to Rifles. i do own a few pistols but this is my first rifle.

Midway sent me a Magpul i think (going off memory im not at home) they told me it was supposed to work in my FS2000. its plastic, not metal and it says .556 on it and has a little window to see the ammo. but it doesnt feed properly. the bullets just dont go in the gun but they do fit in the mag. also i was putting .223 ammo into the Magpul and i really don't know if it says .556 on it does it only feed .556. as i said... Newb!

do you know a particular brand or model number of these GI mags you are talking about?
