I just handled a FS2000 yesterday and fell in love. However, I was curious about the rear sight. I am mainly familiar with AR's and I would imagine everyone in america is familiar with those iron sights. My problem was the rear sight hole on the FS2000 was so small I could barely make a decent sight picture. I would like to use the rifle from 50-200 yards. I just had a hard time imagining being able to effectively use that rear sight up to 200 yards. My overall question is, am I misjudging the iron sights on that bad boy? If so, do you guys have any suggestions on a good replacement? Oh yeah, why is that sight hole so small?
I won't be able to afford one for another couple of months, but I am really excited about joining the club here. The gun shop was selling it for $2199, but I have seen some of the other threads here talking about "military overruns". Hopefully I can find that price in two months. I'll appreciate any feedback.
The aperture is so small to compensate for the short sight radius. It is a bit difficult at times and thats why they are pretty much considered backup sights. Get an optic and forget about them or if it really bugs you, put some decent iron sights on.
I heard of a member here being able to put $250 down on a FN firearm and make full payment when he gets his tax return. I see if I can come up with the thread.
Bahhh - They Got Me. Bought Another FS2000

A pure democracy operates by direct majority vote of the people. When an issue is to be decided, the entire population votes on it; the majority wins and rules. A republic differs in that the general population elects representatives who then pass laws to govern the nation.
Thanks for the response. I had the vibe that it was mainly designed for optics. The only issue there is that I don't know very much about optics (except that they're pricey). Which drums up the question, what would be a good starter optic?

The one I just grabbed from Tanners was 1 of 19 that are reserved for sale via Gunbroker. They are all set up for BUY IT NOW at an even $1450. You must pay a non-refundable deposit of $250 for layaway and then must pay the rest of the cost by 60 days out from the auction sale date. That is a pretty awesome deal for the military overrun stock. They should have 18 left right now, so I'd jump on it while they are still hot out of the oven. Shipping is 30 bucks and it looks like that is the only cost over the sale price, although they add 3% if you want to pay via credit card.
Thanks sarge! I have to admit that I am a little curious about the red dot sights. Looking through some of the other threads today, I see that you like aimpoint. Is there any advantage to red dot sights compared to traditional scopes with crosshairs?
Thanks artranscience! It looks like i'll be having a talk with the wife tonight. What I mean by that is i'll be TELLING her that i'm buying this bad boy tonight........![]()
It all depends on intent. Realistic application and realistic expectations. I choose optics based on the role I slate the weapon to. For short range 0-200, I opt for the red dot sights and of course the irons. For longer distance applications, I choose variable power glass but I take into account the weapon/cartridge capability and base my decision on these factors - Leaning heavily on past experience.
For somebody new to shooting or on a limited budget, I suggest moderately priced, good quality optics such as the Mark AR line. Taking this route will not break the bank and allows the shooter to reserve monies for practice whereas spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars more hampers the shooter from actually getting enough trigger time to become confident and proficient, even if he/she buys top shelf glass.

Wow, that's a great answer. Now I understand why you seem to be the resident guru (No offense to anyone else). I hope you guys don't mind fielding these questions. I would like a tactical carbine and I want to make a wishlist. That's why i'm trying to do the research now, that way when I get the ball rolling in a couple of months on the rifle I can make the push to get it decked out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I like to do product research and comparison. Obviously, the best way to do that is talk to the professionals/experienced.
