If you can't afford an electronic optic, then you can't afford a nice set of iron sights. Those micros run, what, $200 at a minimum? Plus you will have to reduce your sight radius, while adding a larger aperature NOT designed for such a small sight radius, so you will almost certainly downgrade your iron sight performance. The sights that come on the rifle were purpose-built for it - FNH doesn't exactly cheap out on this stuff. If a small distaste for them is really enough for you to waste $200, then by all means it is your weapon, not mine, but you could put that $200 toward ~half of the price of a brand new Aimpoint Pro or CompC3, or you could buy a used CompM2 or CompM3 for around $300.
If the cost is really going to be an issue, but just one of the Primary Arms CompM3 clones for under $100, spend another $30-70 on a nice scope ring/mount that will then be able to be used with a true Aimpont if you decide to upgrade later, and you will have an actual sighting improvement, while maintaining the superior BUIS setup for the weapon. Those PA optics are really almost just as good as the real thing, but as you can see they run at a fraction of the cost.
You would just really be doing yourself a disservice on multiple levels by swapping in the Micros.
Thank you guys so much for taking the time to lay this all out for me here. It appears that saving up some money to buy a used AimPoint/EoTech will be my best bet in this situation vs. going with the "upgraded" iron sights. Let's just hope that when the day comes and I get my fancy optics they don't get taken out by some EMP or whatever... That would be terrible![]()
Good choice.
If you are really concerned about the potential issues of using electronic optics, you could always buy a Trijicon Tri-Power. It is similar to, say, an Aimpoint CompM3 or PRO, but powered in, as it suggests, 3 ways (fiber optic, battery, and tritium). I like the option of getting the Chevron reticle, too. They can be had for about $400-500, used, and really not all that much more new.
Burris also makes some AR specific sights now that would work very well on the FS2000. They offer 1, 3, and 5x magnification in a compact size and run around $300. I will likely upgrade my PA sight to that eventually instead of having to deal with an optic and a magnifier.

I have a PA m3 clone, good little sight especially for the money, and cheaper than a good set of BUIS.
Visceral, I like those Burris sights and may have to upgrade my PA as well.
Those who would trade safety for liberty deserve neither
