    Is this Argentine or Austrian?

So here is my new baby. I have been told it's Argentinian but also told it's Austrian. All I know it's pre 1962. Help me out here please.

Are you asking where the gun was MADE or where it has seen service?

The photos show what looks like a normal Belgian-made HP to me. The original Argentinian-made guns were true copies made under license, but every one I've seen or handled had FM markings, and said made in Argentina -- not Belgium.

I don't think Austria ever made Hi-Powers, and I doubt that any guns made in Austria would carry the FN markings visible in your photos. The proof marks may indicate where the gun was once used, maybe by a national military. Century Arms was the importer, so it was probably a police or military weapon for a while.

The Hungarians (FEG) did make HP clones (but did so without getting rights to do so); they later modified the designs a little; the guns they make are still apparently very close to the original design but are no longer considered true clones of the HP design. FEG is still making them.

Well... the "E" serial number is consistent with guns made in the early 1950s, many of which were exported and examples have been noticed in Austrian, German and British service.... I'd say it is possible it was used by the argies but they usually roll stamped their guns for the using agency. At least some "E" guns found their way to Israel... given the mass of guns on the market in recent years that came out of Israel miy guess would be Israel.

I bought a couple of the ex Izzy guns a few years ago and they proved to be very nice.
