Maybe I'm a bit premature in this, not having held one yet and all, but I have been wondering:
What if one brave soul were to cut out one of the rear receiver supports, in order to side-load the magazine? There is a cavity in the receiver right in front of the magazine; I'm thinking it might be possible to attach a metal bar (or something like it) running between this cavity and the remaining support, to give the leading edge of the magazine something to slide against and guide it during placement. I think this, plus a small spring placed under the magazine might allow it to be "popped off" and replaced very quickly. It sounds feasable to me, in theory. What do you guys think?

That you need to get one and actually see how it works.Originally Posted by QB 45

The spring thing has been tried, and the mag still need to drop in to the notch at the front of the receiver. I would purchase one of Panaceabeachbums P90x receiver if your looking for speed in reloading.

Right, I meant a spring toward the rear, close to the chamber.
The idea is that you'd have the magazine come to the receiver from the side, but at a small angle. You would seat the front in first, then "swing" the rear over the chamber, then down to latch in place.

You would also have to mod ALL of your mags by removing the small retaining circular cup(In the middle top half of the mag) or take the retaining bump out of the stock.
But if you take it out of the stock then you risk having the mag float around side to side whenever you move the gun.
Nice idea but it'll never work and if it does it'll cause more problems.
I'd have to agree with jhs27275 on this; in that, you need to actually get one and see how it works.
Sorry to burst your bubble bud.

I have tried cutting just one side of the reciever rails, everything else unchanged. I have timed reloads with that reciever, as well as fully cut down recievers, and complete stock recievers.
There is a lot that goes into it, but long story short side reloads are not fast; they are the slowest out of any method for the P90. The fastest is the stock reciever, with a more conventional reloading method.

After studying my own PS90 for quite some time now, I firmly believe it would be entirely possible. Not that I'm going to cut my receiver, mind you; just for the simple fact of cutting my receiver.
What if you were to add a horizontal guide to the receiver, to guide the front of the magazine into its place in the receiver?
