Indeed it is not. I never photograph a firearm in the studio with its magazine inserted unless it's empty or filled with snap caps. Until I can buy some dummy rounds or snap caps for the 5.7x28mm I won't insert the PS90 magazine completely. I thought of using an empty magazine but it looked worse than not having it fully inserted.Originally Posted by SONYtec
BTW - It's tough enough to find small business liability insurance as a photographer these days. My carrier would drop me in a second if I didn't follow a safe routine when photographing firearms. In fact, during any session where ammunition is present every round must be accounted for before, during and after the session. I do the same when cleaning my own firearms. No ammo anywhere near the weapon until the strip & clean is done.
PS: If you think I'm being too anal you should see what it takes to have someone actually fire the weapon during a photo shoot.

The one thing I didn't notice was the mag was full of ammo.
No problem here, you do what you have to do, nothing wrong with that at all. Safety first.![]()

I fail to reason with that logic.Originally Posted by Jeff Lynch
Is the firearm any safer because you did not latch the magazine?
You still have to perform 2 manual operations.
1. Cycle the action
2. Squeeze the trigger
Your scenario IS THE PRECISE reason accidents happen. You know why? Because you or someone else will rely on the absurd notion that the magazine is not latched and there is no round in the chamber.
Only people without any regard for safety or total and complete ignorance of firearms would make you do stuff like that.
The safest firearm is the one that is ALWAYS LOADED ready to go. If you treat your's any differently - you are going to end up like the DEA - the ONLY ONE expert enough to handle the Glock he thought was empty.
If you cannot take a picture of a loaded gun - you need a different hobby.

I can say with 100% confidence that - IT'S VOID OF ALL AMMUNITION.
