unfortunately @j.polisi, none of the 3 apps i have allow for bbl length to be input. but you would simply have to know how much velocity is lost on average from the 16" bbl measurement and subtract that from the figure i'm using which is 2650fps. and i might lower it on the basis of @buffman's empirical, real-world data.

but even given a range of velocity from say a window of 2200-2700fps i think the result would still show that if you sight it in at 30yds you can most likely hold a 3" circle up to 150-200 yards. and since i don't have a scope on mine and my eyes are deteriorating, i would hesitate to shoot at anything over 150 yds with this weapon. anyway./guy

oh, here's a clue. this is the notation at the bottom of the chart at the wiki and it gives the difference in fps for the ss195 & ss197 ammo between the ps90 and the fn57 (16" vs 5" bbls). you should be able to split the difference for the 10" bbl. the muzzle velocities of the ss195 and ss197 are given as, respectively, 2350fps for the ss195 and 1950fps for the ss197.

Fired from the longer 40.74 cm (16.04 in) barrel of the PS90, the muzzle velocity of SS195LF is roughly 60 m/s (200 ft/s) faster, and the muzzle velocity of SS197SR is roughly 45 m/s (150 ft/s) faster.[40] Fired from the shorter 12.2 cm (4.8 in) barrel of the Five-seven pistol, the muzzle velocity of SS195LF is roughly 90 m/s (300 ft/s) slower, and the muzzle velocity of SS197SR is roughly 60 m/s (200 ft/s) slower.[40]

so, using ss198 at 2500fps (per buffman) i'm going to subtract 150fps for the difference between the 16" and the 10" barrel. so here's the 30yd chart again at 2350fps for the ss198 ammo:

    +30 yards+
    010 -0.9"
    030 x0.0x"
    050 +0.6"
    100 +0.9"
    150 -1.2"
    200 -6.2"

so it seems the difference in velocity is going to affect mostly the distances over 150yds.

Umm... I just started playing with numbers. What is your sight over bore? 1.5? On a PS-90, would be nice... Conventional sight over bore is 3.5 inches with USG black ring sight. I used 1.5 and got your numbers on the first posting. Might want to revisit because I use a 25 yard zero and get a very wide above and below sight down the range of 5-6 + / - inches for SS197.

yep, i am using 1.5" for the above bore figure. i just measured (roughly) and got 4" from the bbl to the aimpoint sight. i'm using 30yd zero, 2500fps, 27gr bullet. no weather this time. i think i had the weather measurement included for the other postings although it shouldn't have been very significant:

    +30 yards+
    010 -2.6"
    030 x0.0x"
    050 +2.3"
    100 +6.9"
    150 +9.5"
    200 +9.6"
    300 x0.0x"

wow! this sure doesn't look right. no drop until after 300yds? and it sure blows the '3" circle' criteria. had no idea the 'height above bore' would make that much difference. now i'll have to fiddle around to find a sight-in distance that will get me back to that first one with flatness out to 150yds. /guy

given the new parameter, for the ps90 16" bbl with a 4" sight height, it looks like 60yds might be a better fit for the ss198 ammo (2500fps) looking very flat out to 200yds.

    +60 yards+
    010 -3.2"
    050 -0.5"
    060 x0.0x"
    100 +1.3"
    150 +1.1"
    200 -1.8"

i'll have to do the calculation for the pistol separately. if there's a laser hanging underneath the pistol, do i enter that 'height above bore' as a negative number? or does this calculation not work when using a laser? i'll just use the iron sights for now to keep it simple and won't post them here unless you guys want me to since i'm in the carbine forum. /guy

Wow excellent work!!!! I use ss198 and 195/197, any way to put comparable for 197 and 195 directly below with similiar set up? No weather out of 10 inch barrel??

I have tried to figure out the same thing. What would the shifted zero from a 25 zero on a SS197ed sight be for ammo XX. 30 yards? 17? Etc. Couldn't find caculator that advanced. Need to know barrel/scope angle.

Looks like 75 yd zero is the way to go for OEM barrel length and SS197 Blue tip rounds and if you want to stay within CQB distances up to 100 yrds:

    ss197: 40gr @2150fps @75yd zero
    yards rise+/drop-
    025 -2.1"
    050 -0.8"
    075 *0.0*
    100 +0.1"
    150 -1.8"
    200 -7.1"
    250 -16.8"

    Thanks for posting!!
