    ballistics: sight-in distance for ps90 & ss198

so spent some time with my ballistics app using ss198 as the model and came up with what looks like the optimum model for the ps90 and this ammo. i did estimate the fps of this load out of this weapon and might have overestimated 100-200fps, but the model shouldn't change that much i wouldn't think.

at a sight-in distance of 20 yards here are some sample distances:

    020 x0.0x"
    050 +1.7"
    100 +2.8"
    150 +1.5"
    200 -2.7"

which would seem to mean you could hold a 3" circle out to 200 yds.

but 30 yards looks better to me:

    010 -0.9"
    030 x0.0x"
    050 +0.6"
    100 +0.7"
    150 -1.8"

    /guy

    the app says it's 0.193.

i used 2300fps which i think is somewhat over-optimistic. and this is for ss195 i see--that's why i bumped up the fps figure since i understand ss198 is about 100fps faster than ss195.

ah! just discovered something. i have two different apps, but evidently they pull from the same 'load' database as each of them has two 'government loads' listed: ss192 and ss195. but the parms are identical. isn't the ss192 subsonic? if so, it wouldn't be near the 2300fps figure, thus both loads are suspect i think.

i'd forgotten about that chart. i had seen it before, but was unsure how accurate it was.

but from the chart and the addenda at top and bottom if it, ss195 would be 2550fps and ss198 would therefore be 2650. so i'll re-run the simulation at 2650fps and see how much difference it makes. /guy
