Those that have switched muzzle devices-how does it shoot?

The SCAR shoots so flat and with so light of recoil with the standard PWS FSC-556, I'm wondering how it changes when you swap to another muzzle brake/ compensator/ flash hider.

For those that have switched, what did you swap to and how did it change the muzzle rise and recoil characteristics of your SCAR?

I tried the AAC Blackout and the YHM Phantom, and I didn't notice a difference in recoil, muzzle rise, or accuracy degradation. The harmonics were preserved and of course, the little .223 cartridge in the SCAR system doesn't recoil heavily to begin with.

What was different was the report. It (the report) seems (perceived) more pleasant without the FSC unit.

I used to hate shooting next to my friend, shooting his AR15 with the Smith Enterprise Vortex flash hider. I could feel the blast, and definitely way louder! Ears are still ringing 7 years later.

I switched to the Vortex. I use them on everything I have in 5.56X45.

I can't make much comparison to the brake that came on it - I'd have to shoot them one after the other.

I can say that the SCAR has less muzzle jump than my mid length AR with similar length barrel and Vortex. Target to target and follow up shots are very quick with the SCAR w/ Vortex. I'm sure you can get more out of it with the brake, I just don't use a brake on a 5.56X45.

I'm sure it will be a much bigger difference with the 17s and probably worth using the brake (for me)

I switched to the PWS FSC556 SM (suppressor mount). It's a little smaller so that the suppressor can mount over it, but as far as I can tell it performs the same.

I also put a FSC556 on my M4, but haven't shot it yet.

If ya can't beat 'em join 'em....

Going to get flat, low recoil shooting like the SCAR.

Don't expect the same recoil impulse. It's a different operating system.

Yeah, it will be different in some respects, no doubt. My old muzzle device (Levang) forced the gas forward, increasing recoil a bit. It also probably did very little for muzzle hop. I am expecting this muzzle brake to get it way closer to the overall flatness and low recoil range of the SCAR.

Years ago, there was a company that manufactured a unit called the DTA Mil-brake. It was awesome at controlling muzzle climb and recoil.

    I used them on full-auto AK's and the 30 cal.HK's.

    I'm sure they're gone now...

Of course they are. If they worked well the government needs to make it illegal that way all the other crappy manufacturers have a chance...Isn't that what they are teaching nowadays? If it's too good then it's wrong and needs to be knocked down to mediocre level?
