    Politically correct side folder Q&A

I see a SCAR in my future and folding it right now is of no consequence to
me....I would like to render it incapable of folding and then someday
if / when Michigan law changes to reflect federal law, I could reconfigure
it back to fold. (see below for detailed reason)

Is there a way to keep it from folding? If it requires theoretically destroying
the "folder button" I could always purchase a new button at a minimal cost
once the law changes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

    (detailed reason)
I currently reside in Michigan and due to our squirrely laws our state recognizes any long gun under the overall length of 26" (folded) as a pistol. This only pertains to the OAL not the barrel length. We then are required to register the long gun (they call it a "safety inspection" as we do not have registration in MI) as a pistol....yes its crazy. Anyway, our current house of representatives has passed an amendment to recognize Federal law that follows the 26" rule in the "unfolded" configuration. We are just waiting for the Senate side... which could take quite some time....Thanks!

My SCAR has been "californianized" .. you need a tool to drop the mag and the folding stock has been made inop. This was done internally with a screw and from the outside you can't even tell (just the the button to fold the stock doesn't push in)

It's easily reversable by removing the stock and then removing the screw. The hole left by the screw is not seen on the outside of the rifle.

    So yes.. it is possible.

Thanks for the quick response, but either its really late, or I'm slow and just dont understand....

Could you elaborate on the "you need a tool to drop the mag", or where you place the screw? I dont have the rifle yet, and Im a little worried about drilling into my new toy. Thanks!!

This is called a Prince Bullet Button, specifically designed for CA ... it wouldn't apply to you in MI.

There's guys here in MI with the gun, unmodified. There seems to be only one place refusing to sell them that I know of.

Are you just looking to avoid the registration? (I don't think they call a safety inspection anymore and actually acknowledge it as registration since Jan '09 as you no longer need to bring the firearm in, just send the card in with serial #, model, make etc.). If so, then you'll need to have the mod done before you actually take possession of the firearm.

The screw mod they were referring to just prevents the stock from folding (think of it as a door. Kind of like putting a screw through the door frame into the closed door preventing it from being opened).

Nice call on the registration correction, and when to perform the modification. Since I am not interested in folding the stock, I am trying to reduce my "paperwork" and remain compliant with Michigan law.

I understand the concept of what should be done, but would you have have details on how to perform the modification...the type of screw, or exactly where to place it? From what I understand, it sounds like you drill a small hole and place a screw behind the folder "button" to keep it from depressing....hopefully someone has completed this previously and I wont be the guinea pig that everyone uses as an example!

I don't know. One of the Cali guys would/should know, but I haven't seen much about them here.

Got it!! Just got off the phone with a company called Lan World, Inc. http://www.lanworldinc.com/Accessories.html
I spoke with Dusty and Laurie (very nice people). They offer a new SCAR "stock pin" ($5.00) that keeps the stock from folding. No permanent alterations and they stated its easily reversable! They offer other items as well as niche produts for the California market.

It should be here on Tuesday, so I'll know more next week and let you know how it works.
