    Gas regulator settings?

So i got a SCAR 16 the other day and was reading the manual and can not fine clarification on what position is what on the gas regulator. All the manual says is put the regulator in the 12 o'clock position for the gun to cycle property...

What is the definition of the positions?

The 12 0'clock setting is for normal function and you'll never need to change that unless it gets very dirty or you use a suppressor, in which case you use the second setting.

So let me get this right adverse and suppressed are the same setting ? thought bouth of those setting worked on different principles

adverse: letting more gas in to work the fouled action

suppressed: letting in less gas do to the can creating higher pressure environment meaning less gas is required

and yes i have a M4 2000 I am going to run on it

The SCAR platform doesn't have an "adverse" setting. Only suppressed, normal operation [no suppressor], and the third is for disassembly, to remove the gas plug in order to access the piston and gas block for maintenance.

If one were to bore out the hole on "suppressor" setting , can they convert it to "adverse condition" setting?

How much bigger should the port diameter be over the normal setting?

If you do that, you'll be venting more gas into the atmosphere, which is the opposite of what you would want. "Adverse" setting causes more gas to be restricted into the gas system so as to impinge on the piston for a longer duration - ensuring reliability.

For some reason I was thinking the regulator restricted the amount of gas that came from the barrel to the piston. But instead it vents the pressure between the barrel and piston.

Therefore, If you don't use a can, the gas regular is a pretty useless feature.
