well about 2 months ago i picked up another 16s. never fired. i noticed that the barrel was off center all the way to the right. after trying all the obvious fixes i called the factory and they told me to send it in. they replaced the entire rifle. i should have it back this wednesday. this was the first scar i have owned that the barrel was off. i also used to work part-time at a gun store and never seen this before.
That is not good news meaning the bbl. was not correct, good news reading you get a brand new rifle. How did you notice this problem?
i looked and the barrel where it comes out of the upper receiver and noticed that it was almost touching the side. beside the cost of ups fn replaced the rifle with no charge. they told me the barrel assembly was no good. but they didnt give me any specifics.
The end result is they replaced the entire rifle. That speaks volumes about the Browning Repair Center and FNH USA as a whole.Originally Posted by mjdjkj

I wonder how often one should check the torque of the bbl. bolts? I see nothing in manual about the bbl. nuts.
I do feel the bolt system is more positive then the system used in the Bushmaster "Magpul" ACR. after watching the video on the Military Channel where the bbls are removed and re-installed
then both fired and target checked from groups shot before and after.
The SCAR held it's zero the ARC did not. I feel the bolting system used on the SCAR, is more positive then the inclined plane draw"tighting" type system used on the ACR. Just my thoughts only.
Specified torque is only real way of ensuring a return to zero. This is why a ratchet system, as on the ACR, and a latch system, as on the new Baretta, will have RTZ problems.Originally Posted by Rifleshooterscar
I've recently check my torque after firing about 700 rounds. Everything was still tight. I'm gonna do a barrel swap next range trip, so I'll keep you updated.
Hi All,
I got my SCAR 16 yesterday and discovered that my barrel is also canted/off-center relative to the receiver - see pic.
A barrel remount/re-torque without the 6 o-clock rail (to not influence position of the barrel during remounting) as other threads have suggested as a fix didn't work with mine.
Thankfully, mine isn't as pronounces as some other posts. But after paying $$$, I'm a little disappointed to be honest.
I'm hoping it's within spec and I was just unlucky with tolerances adding up in one direction (i.e., nothing more than an adjustment in windage). But I don't have the knowledge/experience in firearms to understand if this is something indicative of a larger issue - thus I worry. Prior to yesterday, the last rifle I touched was my issue M16A2 (~20 years ago).
The OP received a replacement rifle from FN, but it's unclear what other folks are doing - anyone else have this experience?
Regards,
Ed

A pure democracy operates by direct majority vote of the people. When an issue is to be decided, the entire population votes on it; the majority wins and rules. A republic differs in that the general population elects representatives who then pass laws to govern the nation.
Fr those of you with canted barrels, have you shot them yet?
What type of accuracy are you getting?
Are your groups repeatable?
