Damn! I'd move first, before I'd butcher a SCAR...

(Type5) exactly. I've done enough research to know I don't know it all, as it's a labyrinth of ridiculousness. I'm from a free state (WI), but came here for graduate school. I found myself settling here after meeting the Mrs., and enjoying the outdoors 365. I've recently found adding a flash extension of 5.5" would allow me to collapse the scar and not have it neutered. I may go that route after I finally get the rifle. 11 days and counting!

    Best,

I have the same policy. Not because I do not like the people of Claifornia (love the climate and the scenery and most of the people) but it is too easy to get caught in the ever changing laws and wind up on the other side of the fence. Although, I think that that is the idea. Make it so damn complicated that no one wants to do buisness in the firearms market in California.

A pure democracy operates by direct majority vote of the people. When an issue is to be decided, the entire population votes on it; the majority wins and rules. A republic differs in that the general population elects representatives who then pass laws to govern the nation.

It really IS a shame that such a beautiful and outdoor friendly place like California has settled into the political climate it has. We work around it as best as we can, get as much good info as we can (a-la CalGuns.net) then either move away to a "free" state, or just buck up an put up with it. As said before, the scenery, the weather(!) and a fair amount of the folks here are great.

Again, good luck with your SCAR. I just got mine & couldn't be happier!

For the OP, always best, for a multitude of reasons, to have the seller send the receiver to the FFL and all the parts to you. This way there are no additional costs (other than separate shipping), no misunderstanding of compliance and you can configure the gun as you see fit to make it compliant.

Remember, unless it is a Roberti-Roos named AW, it must be fully assembled to be an AW. Disassembled, it is merely a "firearm."

Sounds like you already have a rifle coming, but there are dealers out there who will add the garbage you need to get a SCAR. Fo instance you can buy a SCAR from DDs Ranch. They will ship it set up.

I have a 16 and 17. I can give you some advice about the stock lock (PM me) and I would advise getting the Raddlock bullet button over the other brands - RifleGear - Raddlock FN Scar. Make sure whoever you buy the rifle from gives you any of the stock parts they remove to make it CA legal. If they don't install the Raddlock, and usually they don't because they are more expensive, buy the Raddlock and install it yourself or take it to a shop. It is worth it.

I don't know where you live in CA, but I have a very good crusty old FFL in Northern CA, if you need advice. Finally, if you are stuck in Comiefornia, as I am, go to the CalGuns.net forum for all kinds of help with these questions. The FN forum is great for FN specific info, but CalGuns IS the place to go for CA issues and questions.

    Cheers---

Bought my SCAR from rifle gear and getting ready to pick up my next rifle too. I have had nothing but great service and best pricing locally here in So. Cal. Good luck!

to get back on topic. depends where you are. Norcal: Valkyrie ARms in Milpitas, CA

    Call them first

    Socal: RifleGear.com
they even sell the parts to make it CA compliant.. And it's totally reversable should you leave the states.

Most likeley, the shops are gonna want the SCAR to be shipped to them dissasembled: pistol grip off, upper lowers seperate, stock off because you need a nfa license to revieve nfa config rifles.

    cheers
