JUST A THOUGHT.
.
I am, as a matter of fact, and they are up there in price also. I don't know which is the better scope though. I did pull up a review between the two and the reviewer listed all of the pros and cons of each and ended by saying that both were about equal. Just comes down to personal preference.
I have all the ACOGS and all the ELCANS.
To say the ACOG and ELCAN are equal is just plain and hugely wrong.
1. Elcan glass is better and you can see it.
2. The 6x ACOG you are looking at. I was told, by a law enforcement, military representative at Trijicon, that this 6x was made for machineguns and was to heavy for rifles. I do note that the British have adopted it for a 308 sniper.
3 The ACOG is fixed power. With the ELCAN you have a 6x. Designed to be used on 6x. The bullet drop compensator is set for 6x. You can drop it down to 1.5x and turn on the red dot for close quarters.
The ELCAN is designed as a fixed 6x. The 1.5 is there for a cqb situation -should it arise. On 1`.5 it is super clear, super wide angle and is used with both eyes open. With the ACOG you have to move your head up to the red dot and thus are not looking through the scope anymore. With the ELCAN you just throw a lever to change powers and are looking through the same scope.
I have read that the 1st generation Elcans had a point of impact change at 1.5. It did but very small it didn't happen often - at all and when it did they replaced with a new scope.
It doesn't happen now !
When it happend on the old ones it was on 1.5 and since it was close quarters = no problem. You could easily have that problem with an ACOG because you have a red dot to sight in and an additional 4x or 6x scope to sight in.
4. On 6x you have 5 light settings for the range finder, cross hairs and bullet drop compensator and 5 brightness settings for the red dot for CQB.
5. You can buy KILL FLASHES for both.
If you get a chance to play with both - You really should !
Both are great.
I think you can tell which one I like best - yet I have more ACOGS than Elcans. The Elcan is on my SCAR 17s, The ACOGs on SCAR 16s & Ruger SR556. On my FN FAL, I have a 5.5x ACOG.
EO TECH with Magnifier on MSAR gen5 & SIG 556 SWAT.
C-More on FN FS2000.
EO Tech on my customized M4.
Draganov 308 has Draganov scope.
FN PS90 has the FBI factory sight, light & 20 mw green lasser.
Springfield M1A - pre ban - supematch = open sights.
Open sights on AK47s & AKM 74s same with SKS collection.
All are fun.
All are different.
All are functional for what they are meant for.
My advice is just to play and experiment ! Have fun. Check out everything !
Only scope I have is a ZEISS Conquest 3.5 to 10 40mm. Don't have a rifle to put it on but since I got it free, I figure I'll trade in some handguns or my wife to get a rifle to put it on.
Probably would need a little boot if I traded in my wife. Yes she is that good !
