I agree with all the above, especially using the Brownell FDE colored magazines. They make a great magazine however they aren't anti tilt followers so I got a buch of them from Magpul and now I think they are perfect for the scar.Originally Posted by Paul Cataldo

Just found that none of my 10/30 California converted mags will work in the SCAR.. the reason is that they are riveted (to keep them at 10 rnds) and the rivet just goes into the magwell making it way too tight.
So I can either mod the magwell (no way), grind down the rivets (bad idea) or find another style of 10/30 mags..
Just an FYI
First of all, great forum, I just recently joined.
I have several Lancer and Magpul PMags that I was using with no problems with my Bushmaster AR15. I recently acquired a SCAR, and started trying out my mags on it. I quickly found that my Lancers would not latch at all, and my PMAGs would on occasion do the same (the bolt would not close with the magazine in). My metal mags (stock FN, stock Bushmaster and a cheapo GI's) had no problems at all latching and allowing the bolt to close.
After disassembling both my AR and my SCAR and looking through the lower receiver I noticed that the magazine "latch" (i don't know the part name!) on the bolt catch for the AR is pretty much centered on the receiver, whereas on the SCAR the same latch is actually offset about 3/16" to the left side. I then inspected my Lancer and Magpul mags and saw that the groove for the magazine latch is narrower than on the standard metal mags, so with the offset latch on the SCAR the rifle was not properly engaging the magazine.
The measurement from the outside edge of the magazine to the inside edge of the new groove needs to be no more than 1/4" for the latch to engage. When the magazines came out of the box this measurement was was about 3/8". I took a nail file and filed off the extra 1/8" of material from the left side of the groove on my plastic mags to widen it so it would match the groove on the metal mags. The right side can be left alone. It worked great, and now all of my magazines work flawlessly (latching and dropping) on both the SCAR and the AR.
Hopefully this will help the guys who are having trouble with the Lancer mags.

Hmm... interesting. After opening the mag well very slightly, all my mags work fine in my SCAR... USGI's, ARCs, PMAGs and L5's.Originally Posted by c33m0n3y
I'm gonna have to eyeball mine to see what's up.
The firsttime I fired my SCAR 16 I used the factory magazine that came with the weapon. On the first & second rounds I got a double feed and a FTF. After that all was well. Later examination of the Magazine revealed a freshly worn spot on the lower left corner of the cutout on the top rear of the magazine. I could still see a small burr that had not completely worn off, so a few strokes with a flat file evened up the slot. Just posting for general information as I had not thought to inspect the magazine for assembly flaws.![]()

OK so are the Tango Down ARC magazines officially OK to use?
I was going to order some tomorrow.
I also want some Magpul EMags but they only come in black and I want something in FDE.
Beyond the FDE ARC mags I may also try the Tan Brownells USGI mags.
I prob won't bother with FDE Magpul PMags because those seem a little hit and miss and I don't want to have to sand anything.
Anything else in FDE that you guys would recommend?
That's all I use in my SCAR. They work great!Originally Posted by Gray Ghost

Cool, thanks for the info.
I read that they were "made with the SCAR in-mind" so I think I'll give them a shot.
I'm going to call them up today and try and find some of those rare 6.5" SCAR panels too. No idea where to get those and I heard their main phone # isn't even the right place to call.
I have just over 1200 rounds through my SCAR16. In that time I have had two double feeds. Both were on the first use of the magazines in question and both were on the second round cycle. The first occurred with the FNH magazine that came with my SCAR on the first shoot. The second happened this week on the first use of a new Brownell magazine. I have eleven other Brownell magazines with no problems. I inspected both double feed magazines and observed a small burr that was rubbing and shiny on both magazines, located in the bottom left (looking at the rear of the magazine) of the vertical cutout. I took a small file to the burrs and all seems well (?). Now to my question. If that small burr did indeed cause the double feed, exactly how does this happen? I have been lucky in that in over 45+ years of M16/AR15 use I have never had a double feed event. Now I have had two events in just over 1200 rounds. Because I am not sure of the cause I am slightly uneasy about having this happen at an inopportune moment.![]()
