Looks like the millitary is looking for "reliable light weight mags for the SCAR":

""MARKET SURVEY - SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS: The Government is issuing this sources-sought announcement as part of a market survey. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is interested in receiving information/product samples from vendors about a Lightweight Durable / Reliable Magazine (LDRM) for the SCAR (SOF Combat Assault Rifle) series MK 16 and MK 17. This is part of market research and any items submitted will not be utilized as part of a large contract down-select but rather to further the government's understanding of market capabilities.
All interested sources of any type of 5.56mm NATO (STANAG 4179 - M16 compatible) and/or 7.62mm NATO capable magazines which might be adaptable to SCAR applications, while meeting durability and reliability requirements are encouraged to submit company and product literature, references and any other pertinent information for the government's consideration.
Major components / characteristics of interest to the government include:
5.56mm capable magazines configured for 20 and 30 round capacity and 7.62mm capable magazines of 10 and 20 or 25 round (goal) capacity.
Prospective magazines must be lighter weight than comparable currently used magazines (which are steel body), and highly resistant to the battlefield environment to include corrosion, rough handling, and chemicals. Magazines must drop free of the rifle when released and not interfere with use of the under-slung MK 13 Grenade Launcher (EGLM - Enhanced Grenade Launcher Module).
Magazines should be capable of remaining fully loaded for extended times without degradation.
I'd wait to see what they come up with.![]()
That looks interesting. It will be interesting to see what is provided.

Sounds like a task for Magpul!
Also: 25-round magazines for the SCAR-H? I need new pantaloons.

Lithgow, as well as Herstal made some nice 25 round magazines for the FAL, and there were paratrooper aluminum units available as well. The techie stuff is done. It's a matter of who can do it cheap and do it right.
Personally, I would take an aluminum unit over a polymer, if I had a choice. To me, the polymer hasn't been tested long enough to determine its life expectancy. The Israeli orlite mags were polymer over-molded a steel skeleton. - The feed lips as well as the body worked (dimensionally stable) because of this.

Yay!
New chest rig!
(Happily, I don't have a 7.62mm NATO rig. Yet.)
As stated, they seem to look really close to a FAL mag. But the obvious difference in this case will be how the mag catches. When you think about how you can modify an UZI mag to work in a 9MM AR, or an AR15 mag to work with an AR18 for example, then I would like to think there is hope to where some simple modifications could make a FAL mag work in a SCAR. I try to think positive on this deal because I have about 20 FAL mags that could use a rebuild and some TLC anyways.
Aren't the new DSA mags supposed to fit the SCAR as well as the FAL?
Vaporware. I remember reading something about them becoming available 6 months ago.Originally Posted by keiser

DSA is selling their new mags now. Many have received them although there were feeding issues on the first shipments. I'm not sure they fit the SCAR but some people were guessing they would fit both FAL and SCAR-H models.Originally Posted by SgtStrykerUSMC43
Really? Why don't you try to order one, and post back after you verify that they are actually in stock, and ready to ship?Originally Posted by keiser
