I was ready to purchase a SCAR 17 and I then realized there are a couple of variants and more coming. I'm unsure if I should wait or not. What are the differences in the standard and heavy? Is it just a heavier barrel? What are the differences in weight? The low weight is actually my biggest concern with the SCAR. It is the lightest 7.62 rifle I know of and I'm curious what the recoil is like. Is there a lot of muzzle rise? I saw on the FN site they will be releasing an SSR version. When does this come out? The stock on it seems like it would be the best. Also, what are the upgrades on the SSR besides the stock? Will it have a match barrel and trigger? If that is the case, then the SSR is the one I want. Also, are there any high cap mags and is there a conversion kit to the .223 and/or 7.62x39?

20 round mags will be available and nobody has discussed conversions for the civilian market. No 7.62X39 conversion is currently being designed.Originally Posted by dmelt1030

Thanks, stryker. You answered all of my questions. I have an M14 EBR being built right now. I should have it in another month. That will have to suffice until i can get my hands on that SCAR SSR. Any idea when it will be released next year? Will it have different options for barrel lengths? I'm guessing it would be a 20". I thought you could convert it to fire the AK rounds, did FN scrap that feature?
There's no firm release date set, and my understanding is the SSR will be marketed with the 20" barrel [only].
The conversion kit in 7.62X39 was originally slated for the SOCOM contract but was quickly dropped from consideration.
