Sales Tax Charged From Out Of State Sales to Individuals

I just talked to GT Distributors in Austin, TX and was informed anyone living in GA, TN and a couple other states are charged Tx sales tax. I have done several out of state sales and had the purchase sent to Ga to my FFL and have not ever had to pay their state sales tax. I hope this is not a trend for all out of state sales. I don't doubt the feds want to collect taxes on everything and probably will if they can get away with it.

Bushmaster charges sales tax where applied.

They don't calculate it at the time you order either.

If the company in question you order from has any operations at all in the state that you are buying from, they have to charge sales tax. Regardless if the item is coming from out of state. It's just the way it works.

Give it another year or so and we'll all be paying a internet tax on all our amazon and similar purchases if congress has it's way.

That's exactly what the issue is here. They have a facility here in Ga too.

They should charge you the sales tax rate in your state of residence - not thier state.

But, he told me TN also and they do not have a salesroom there. I think he also said Alabama and South Carolina. As far as I know, they only have the one in TX and GA.

I live in NC - and I buy something from JC Penney (internet) - they charge me NC sales tax - this is correct - they do business here. They pay this tax to the NC state government.

You are liable for your own (residence) states sales tax - only. They cannot charge you sales tax for a state in which you do not reside.

Your statement " was informed anyone living in GA, TN and a couple other states are charged Tx sales tax" ... only TX resididents can pay TX sales tax....if you live in GA ...AND they do business there...they will charge you GA sales tax.

    Sales Tax

Guys I will chime in on this since I deal with this on a daily basis. Sales tax should not be charged for that state if you do not physically receive that item in the state. However some states may have an agreement with other states and will collect on their behalf or a company located in another state does so much business in that state they are required to obtain a state resales certificate for that state. If that is the case than you do pay if not than you are not required to your state may require you to file a tax form and pay the taxes directly to them.

I think the question here is, why are they charging him Texas sales tax when he is in Georgia?

He should only be charged Georgia's sales tax, if they have one.
