How old are the scars in the pics? I looked at mine again and the holes are rounded off on mine where at the one in the pics are not...

I picked mine up Apr 14th. Picked up the sling on maybeee the 22nd? Been out to shoot a few times since, so maybe 16 hrs attached use. A lot of great ideas here, thought I was the only one with steel attachment loop on sling!

Do you think if I use my dremel to smooth out the sharp edges on the mash clips would eliminate the problem?

It may help. As I stated above, the more rounded edge MASH clips on my weapon have not gouged the mounts as much as the ones pictured here. I think the sharper MASH clips I have may be a different story.

I have around 16 hours of field, range and gunshow carry time on mine.

I have the H&K hook on the sling I have been using on my 16 and it look about the same FA. I only run the mass clip for a few hours before I stop using it but I still run the one with the H&K hook.

Thanks for those pics FullAssault. That may just be the determining factor to drive me to purchase some H&K clips.

The sling that I've been discussing is the Urban ERT SCAR sling. They're are a FNF sponsor and I would recommend their SCAR sling to anyone but their mash hooks are just eating away at my attachment points. Their website lists a variety of sling adapters, one of them being a H&K clip. The picture they provide is small and I can't tell if it too has sharp edges. Does anyone use or know how their H&K clips are?

When I first obtained my Urban Sling I asked Sgt Matt Murray at URBAN-E.R.T. Slings & Tactical Training about this issue of H&K verses MASH clips. Here is his response:

"The SCAR sling attachments I believe are aluminum. Anytime you put steel against aluminum, you are going to have some marring an scratches . The SCAR factory carrying straps use the HK style snap clips. They are steel as well. The difference between the HK clip an the MASH clip is that if the HK clip is clipped to anything elongated, it can easily pop off. Go to our website and click on either the single point sling link, or the two point sling link and then click on the E-RUSH sling. Then click on the video at the bottom. It will show the MASH clip vs. The HK clip and how the HK clip an pop off. This is why I prefer the MASH. As far as the marring, it boils down to the owner of the weapon. To me, a weapon is a tool, and tools get used, scratched, and abused. If the weapon is still functional after all that then it is surely a good weapon to take into combat. There are some that treat them like pretty plaques to hang on the wall to be coveted safe queens . They never put the weapon through its paces and truely never allow the weapon to achieve its full potential. If a battle rifle such as the SCAR isn't able take a few scratches then SOCOM wouldn't have adopted it. It is a fine weapon and a good choice for your first rifle to get back into the game. Especially with today's political climate being what it is and what is happening to our country. Now, if one is buying it as a financial investment, then I would say keep the MASH clips away from it and keep the box in the attic because they hold their value when you have the box and accessories. I think you are the previous description though. Some say scratches, I say character. "

I agree with what he saying about safe queens and the such but it's not the scratches I worry about about it the gouges that are deteriorating the integrity of the attachment points. I, by no means, claim to be a hardcore combat tactics enthusiast that will ever reach the SCARs full potential but I have been putting on average 200 rounds a month through it. Now, I've had my sling for a week and shot 100 rounds with it on and, like I mentioned in my original post, it's more than just paint coming off. I may still try the H&K clips, since I'm just hunting with it and shooting with my buddies, or I may go with my other idea and smooth out the sharp edges of the mash hooks with a dremel.
Thanks for bringing to my attention the possibility of the H&K clip popping off.
