    New 17s owner

Well, the 10 days is up so I picked up my new SCAR 17s 7.62x51

Couldn't find one new in CA so I picked up a used one with 200 rnds through it.. had to come home and clean it since people suck at cleaning firearms.

So far I just tossed on the rail covers, milled Magpul MAID grip, and TangoDown stubbie from the 16s I sold and installed a Surefire Compensator/Adapter - MB762SSAL/RE -- that took some work since I had to turn down the jamb nut so the comp could slide over it.

Can't shoot it until my roll pin assortment shows up.. was missing one to hold the mag release button. Also on the hunt for more magazines.

Still deciding on optics.. maybe a 1x4 Trigicon.. want something with varialble power. Suggestions?

The Tri-Tone FDE is a bit annoying, might send it all out to get coated in some sort of desert camo.. It's also a bit "splotchy".. not like a blem but not as even as my 16s.. and the area under where the barcode tag was is really off.. maybe some sort of solvent?

Here's the nut after I turned it down on a lathe..

    Nice it looks good

I fought with what to do about optics on mine and finally settled on a variable one. I went with a 1.5-8x28 and love it, my vote would be something from a 1-4, 1.5-6, or 1.5-8, but to each is own.

Would you tell us about your 1.5-8 scope, what is it, specs, cost, etc.?

    Valdada 1.5-8x28
    17oz
    9.5" long
    35mm main tube
    3.5" eye relief
    CQB BDC ILL. reticle
    1/4" moa

I picked up mine for $1014 with high rings, it was a demo model. Retail should be around $1270.

To run it on a SCAR it needs high rings .750 or you have to lose the rear sight. The illuminated reticle is no good during the day, even on high it's washed out. Some people will bash Valdada but the two I have, have been great so far. I have only had the 1.5-8 for a month so I'll have to see how it holds up.
