    Gas Piston Cleaning and End-Coating

Question: while cleaning the gun for the first time I took the gas piston out and cleaned it. I noticed that on the skinny end, it is black, even after cleaning. However some of the black coating has come off. Is this normal? Thanks.

Great thanks. Also, the manual says not to lubricate the piston and housing. Does this mean not to use CLP to clean either? Thanks again.

Correct, don't use CLP as it's also a Lubricant hence the L in CLP.

Soldiersport: I am not so convinced about this as CLP only serves as a Lubricant and Protectant if you leave a coat of it on while reassembling. However, if you wipe it off and make sure that none of the CLP is left on the piston and cap when reassembling, shouldn't this suffice as not lubricating?

Plus, when you are cleaning the gun you're bound to get some CLP on the piston because of the CLP left on your hands, unless you wash your hands before you clean the piston. I like to get some more opinions, especially from SgtStrykerUSMC43 who is listed on this forum as "manufacturer." Thanks for all of your help.

I think you need to look at it as a general rule. They say that so you dont pour the liquid in there and shoot, getting juice all over from the gas port, or worse explode the piston cylinder when the liquid doesnt get out of the way fast enough when that piston gets sent back at Mach 3. Kinda like water in your engine cylinders, not going to compress easily like air (gases) will.

Of course I am compensating for something.... If I could kill something at 300 meters with my c*ck I would not need a gun!

SCAR gas system is to remain dry.

    No oiling required.

If residual oil is on the piston and/or in the gas block, it will be burned onto the surfaces after being subjected to the flame front and will make for more difficult cleaning.
