Considering taking my Scar17 antelope hunting

only thought is 16 inch barrel, I think 4-500 yards is max range on game with the Scar for accuracy.
what is the farthest you guys have taken animals with your Scar 17?

    I have other options

    Grendel 18 inch barrel

    6.5x55 I built from Mauser

and of course my LR rifle 7mm Mag I built from Mauser action, just a heavy rifle.

I expect my shots to b 100-800 meters.
I may bring a short range rifle for walking and a Long range for drive and stalk.

    Very nice firearms.

A pure democracy operates by direct majority vote of the people. When an issue is to be decided, the entire population votes on it; the majority wins and rules. A republic differs in that the general population elects representatives who then pass laws to govern the nation.

I don't see why you would use a 17. If anybody could do it, you could! That's for sure...

The SCAR would be nice and light to pack around, wouldn't worry about getting it dinged up because it is tough. I guess you have to put in a low capacity mag.
The thing is a .308 is a lot of bullet for an Antelope. I took one this year with a .30-06 and shot clean through it, if there had been one behind it I would have had two!

You for sure have more than enough experience to know if you can place the bullet exactly where you want at the distance you are going to be at. If you can then there is no reason it wont work for you.

Of course I am compensating for something.... If I could kill something at 300 meters with my c*ck I would not need a gun!

will give it a try, currently getting a timmeny trigger for it then run some ballistic dope for my data book. I am tempted to run the Scar 17 for all ranges, according to my calculation I still have 800+ FT Pounds of energy at 575-600 Meters

I figure he'd pick the best tool for the job. In his stable, it wouldn't be the 17. 6.5 is a great antelope cartridge. I would guess the Grendal. You?

I've harvested Elk with my 17s. Get a heavy grain round. I've routinely hit center ring on targets at 300m with iron sights. With glass you can shoot to 800m just try and argue. It's proven. 16" doesn't mean it's not effective past 500m, just not sub MOA. If you hand load, you stand a better chance. But the vital area of an animal that size, there is a lot of room for mistake. Relax you have more than enough with Hornady off the shelf to take your animal, one shot one kill. Blood makes the grass grow and we make the blood flow.
