Broken Replacement parts

Hey everyone, I just received my SCAR 17 and have some mags on the way. My question is what are the most common parts that could break in the SCAR 17? I am looking for some spare parts just incase.

Firing pin, extractor, mag springs, … (what else?). I'd also like to hear others' opinion on this, as well as where to purchase the replacement parts themselves!

And since we're speaking parts, depending on how much shooting you're doing, a spare recoil spring and Bolt assemblies wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Copter, unfortunately MGW carries 16s parts, not 17s parts. Check out this reply from another thread I previously started on this subject:

Not a lot of internal 17 parts like the firing pin etc are the same as a 16. The firing pin retaining pin, extractor retaining pin and clip are the same but not much else in that area. The recoil spring and guide rod are different too. A lot of lower receiver parts will work, most screws on receiver are the same, stock is the same. The spares you would most likely want are mostly different. Sometimes we get spare parts for the 17 but they don't last long and rarely make it to the website listings. The good news is that the Scar with proper care will last a long time.

Does anyone know where to get key replacement parts for the 17s? This is my long-term investment and "SHTF" gun but if I can't get replacement parts, maybe I invested got into the wrong platform…

I call the FN/Browning Parts and Repair Department in Missouri every other month or so to see if I can buy spare parts for my SCAR-17. Every time I do the parts sales person isn't sure if any parts are even available yet. Then he/she checks the computer for that SCAR-17 bolts, extraxtors, firing pins, etc. that i have asked for.

Every time the computer comes with no no available parts for SCAR-17, just a few for SCAR-16, and the person tells me all available parts are probably being used to build rifles and that they expect a shipment of parts in the next 2 months, and to call back.

And 2 months later I call back...and repeat the same conversation...since January 2011.

Oh well, they will get spare parts in some day. I'll survive until then.


I ended up just buying a second identical SCAR-17 as a "spare part". Does that make me smart or weak?
