Finally got to sit down with my 17 and put some shots down range w/o the distraction of a friend/family member there oooh-ing and ahhh-ing over the SCAR's muzzle blast, etc.![]()
Not even close to as good as DJ's from 2/16/12, but I was pretty pleased. I've never even owned a rifle before the SCAR - only shotguns - so this is a new experience for me.
I was shooting 147gr Malaysian 7.62x51 NATO surplus from the bench with the Grip Pod open. Probably had about 15-20mph sustained cross winds. ACOG TA11 3.5x35 optic - 100 yards. I did try about 20 rounds at 200yds, they were pretty wild. It's hard to really get good placement with the illuminated chevron / BDC reticle on the TA11. Anyone else feel the same?
Anyway, without further adieu...

Looks good! GJ
Nicely done!
Bet if you put a higher powered optic on there, you could get it a lot tighter![]()

Just a suggestion -- try some higher quality Match ammo -- such as Federal Gold Medal Match 175 grain. Worth 20 bucks to see what you can do with it....

Thanks for the tip, Clyde. The first time I went out with the 17, I shot some expensive match grade stuff. But I was getting the optic zeroed in that day. Now I have all this surplus ammo to blast through, so I figured I would get a lot of good practice in with it, then go buy the high quality stuff again and see what a few months of training lead to. I'll post some follow up pics when I get to that!![]()

Great shooting! I had a hell of a time with the chevron reticle but you seem to be getting some great results so far. Gotta love the clarity of those Acogs!
Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I'm doing.

Yeah, with surplus ammo, you are definitely within minute of hog already...!
