Pretty sure I am getting a SCAR 17 but I was hoping someone had the answer to this question.
What is the max bullet grain you can shoot out of the SCAR 17?
I know on the M1A the max grain is 175gn, anything above that is not recommended.
Thoughts?

Isnt the problem that the overall length wont fit or feed from the magazine? Does a heavier grain bullet get longer than the lighter ones?

Of course I am compensating for something.... If I could kill something at 300 meters with my c*ck I would not need a gun!

About the longest standard round for 7.62 NATO is M118 Special Ball with a 175 gr boattail bullet and an overall spec length of 2.83"
As long as you don't exceed the OAL you should be fine with a 175, 178 or even 180 grain bullet. Your problem going heavier is that the 1:12 barrel twist rate won't do you a lot of good with anything heavier. You want to shoot heavier, you'll need to go to a 1:10.

Barre length is a factor also, slower twist rates, shorter barrel lengths, and heavy bullet weights are not going to do well at extended ranges, higher bullet weight, lower velocities and a lower bullet RPM will cause the round to destabilize sooner.
