Best ammo for shooting and reloading

I don't want to duplicate the ammo reviews thread above.


My primary goal is to find good 308 ammo to plink with and then reload it. I have a bunch of IVI brass I am reloading right now. I bought 1260 rounds of south african 308 but feel I would rather buy ammo that I can reload.

After I plink with it I will reload it to make it match

Any help is appreciated.

Tall order right now. If you can find Prvi Partisan (PPU) anywhere it's good, reloadable stuff. SOME German Hirtenberger is boxer primed, some is berdan, so double check. But you probably won't be able to find any lately. LC M80 ball is okay for plinking (may not be super accurate) but the brass is good. You may not be able to find any. Surplus 7.62 boxer primed is very scarce right now and prices are NUTS. A few weeks ago a couple of places listed PPU at a reasonable price and people snapped it all up.

If you can get a quantity of Winchester "white box" 7.62 (I think it's item Q3130) it's good brass.

You might want to have a look at this thread; it's updated frequently.

I guess it's a good thing I'm setting on 4K of the Prvi, 2K of Lake City M80, 1K of Fed GMM 168gr, 1K of Portuguese surplus, 800rds of Pakistan surplus, 600rds of British Radway,and 300rds of Hornady 168 match then.

I've preached buy all the ammo you can afford when it's available for years and I still have buddies who wait till it starts to get hard to get an then want me to sell them some of mine

I usually run through a good bit of ammo and I like to have enough to ride out the shortages and panic buying.

The Privi 145gr is/was the best deal around for reloadable ammo when available...I also noticed that retailers just raised their price on it as well a few weeks ago, probably due to the anticipated influx of panic buying.

It was funny watching people severely overpay during last election's buying frenzy and then see everything drop in price like a brick once the items went into overstock shortly after...after everyone was done getting ripped off I got some killer deals on mags and ammo thanks to everyone's initial panic buying and the overstock that followed
